There is no reason for any of this. There is zero upside, it will cost us hundreds of millions of dollars, will piss off everyone in the Middle East, and will completely derail any potential peace agreement.
EVERYONE is against this.
I knew nothing about this issue until Trump made this announcement, and Robbie (bless his heart) educated me a little bit about it. I had no idea Congress had voted on this in 1995, and I had no idea all presidents since then have signed a waiver preventing this from happening. What happened here is Congress wanted to send a message to Israel saying "We support you" but everyone knew we could never move our embassy to Jerusalem.
Trump and his team, namely Jared, and their complete and utter lack of political experience, decided it was a good idea to move the embassy to Jerusalem without consulting anyone at the State Department about this. Meanwhile, between Trump and Tillerson, the State Department has been gutted and everyone with experience has left. Five minutes of reading tells us why we cannot do this.
People like Robbie (#thanksrobbie) who follow the propaganda from FOX News will argue that it's "silly" for the US not to have the US Embassy in Jerusalem, but can offer up no valid reason to move it. Not one.
There is zero upside in moving the embassy to Jerusalem, it will cost us hundreds of millions of dollars, it will piss off everyone in the Middle East, and ends any serious attempt at a peace agreement between Israel and the Middle East is gone.
This batshit crazy. It's almost like this entire administration is intentionally making the worst possible decision every chance they get without any valid reason.
Then to make things worse... The one sliver of hope I had for the Trump administration, threatened all of the other countries at the United Nations. Does the Trump administration not understand how this works? This is not "We pay the UN money so you must support us". This is fucking insane. The entire United Nations, our allies for years, just bitch smacked us in a very public fashion.
This is just batshit crazy.
