The Trump administration pulled waivers for all states that didn't vote Trump in the 2016 election except for Massachusetts. Tge only Trump voting state they pulled wauvers for was Florida. This is unamerican bullshit petty payback. Very pathetic

Dear Applicant,

We have just received notification that WIOA funding has been temporarily suspended. As such enrollments have been put on hold until further notice. At this time we do not have an estimate as to when enrollments will open again and recommend that you periodically check our website for updates. We appreciate your patience in this transition into a new program year.

That sucks dude, that's Trump MAGA.. He's MAGA for senor housing in FL as well. There are lots of elderly and disabled getting evicted across the state because Trump has cut funding to various programs.

Either try to wait it out or go the MEGA route like I did if you really want to drive. The money is there, but make sure to understand OTR driving is a shitty life if you aren't ok with it. Meaning make sure you are ok with being away from home and not having much personal life if any while you are doing it.

Something you might look into, depending on where you are located is delivering Amazon packages. I've heard both good and bad about them so I'm not sure if it's a good option, but might be something to look at.

Whatever you do, don't go the route of getting financing via the truck driving school. You might however look into your local community colleges as sometimes they have CDL training that is very cheap.

The other benefit of going to a community college CDL school is they are often eligible for Pell grants, which could cover your entire cost, especially if you are unemployed and not in good financial shape. You would need to check your local community college programs ASAP and talk to them about FAFSA paperwork...

Ok, I received my flush and a box of 15 test strips (cheaper than a single test at Walmart). I haven't used the flush. I put both of them in the fridge and will use just for assurance.

Does this count as a negative? It's not a full line or even half a line. I'll take one test a day until I get a solid line.

That is.my plan. To sell my RV and live in the truck.

GFED 07-20-2018 04:11 PM

I passed my DOT physical and drug test yesterday. Now I'm running into problems about the WIOA funding. I'm being told that I need to apply to the CareerSource center in the county I reside in. Technically my address is only a mail forwarding service. I live in my RV at random parking lots and campgrounds. I might have to make a trip to Crestview in order to proceed. I'm not sure yet.

I'm going to have to take the test again if I don't get the funding within 30 days so it was kinda a waste of $65. The recruiter at Roadmaster was pushing me to hurry and get things done but he wasn't really listening to my situation. So his supervisor brought this up yesterday when I was there meeting with him. His supervisor is suppose to contact my counselor at CareerSource and then call me back. It seems no one was aware of my living situation even though I've explained it to them. Honestly, they're all too concerned about making money off me and only see dollar signs when I meet with them.

They are low-level salespeople operating off of a "script." That script may be something given to them or something that they put together in their head. As a unique individual, you do not fit within their "script" so they have no idea how to handle you and completely block your concerns out of their mind.

As a person with disabilities I'm sure you have dealt with this your whole life in many other scenarios. Same thing. People don't know how to handle scenarios outside of their comfort zone.

Good luck on getting funding. I've enjoyed reading your story.

I never officially been diagnosed by a doctor for anything. The guy told me just to check no for anything I wasn't sure of or had questions about. He was really quick about the whole thing. Probably took 15 minutes max.

There was a big push on sleep apnea recently for DOT cards. Last two I had taken (have to go every two years) they were mostly concerned about sleep apnea.

They first would measure your neck and then would use the BMI chart (which is total bullshit) to see if you were a prime target for sleep apnea. If you fell into the concern area, you were automatically sent off for a sleep study.

They might have a more intense screening at the trucking company. This guy I went to was a chiropractor that did this on the side. It was the place Roadmaster told me to go so I'm sure they have a business relationship.

If you already got your DOT card I would not worry about it.

I am sure it will be covered somewhere down the line but nothing more than info about eating well, exercise, and getting rest.

Congrats on the new gig.

My grandfather was a trucker all his adult life for the now defunct (I believe) Red Star express.

I just talked to the director over at SAGE and she told me that they aren't eligible for Pell Grants because the number of credit hours is not enough.

DOT physical is pretty easy TBH.. they don't even play with your wang... It's really if the trucking company you go to has any doctors when it comes to COPD and so on.No proof but that is one issue I didn't like about Prime, was it seemed like they were telling far too many people that they had COPD. It almost makes me think their in house doctors are getting kick backs for forcing drivers to buy those $1k machines and pay for the monitoring.

This is what I'd say about that. It wasn't a issue for me, but I know drivers who are now forced to use those COPD machines and if they don't use it as much as their supposed to use them Prime will make them sit and not move until they've used it the right amount of hours.. even on their home time if they don't use the damn machine then try to come back Prime will not give them a load until it's been used..

If whatever company you go to tries to tell you that you have to use those machines, quit right there on the spot. By all means go to a real doctor and get checked out to see if you really need it, but if one of the company doctor's tries to push that on you quit right then and there, because once you get that on your CDL medical card it's nearly impossible to get it removed.

Basically the DOT is pushing the COPD testing heavily on these companies so they have to make sure they are compliant and if you are over a certain body mass or smoked it's almost certain they will make you do sleep tests at any of the big carriers.

hey crockett.. if your serious about getting a van/sprinter for your exp don't buy a ram promaster because the leg room is for shit. I have a 2014 right now and on those long trips (over 500 miles+) my legs tend to cramp up alot and its hard af to stretch out which can turn into ankle and feet swelling if you don't keep those feet moving.

Apparently since the WIOA funding has been suspended, I'm not worth anything to them anymore. The new "recruiter" kept trying to push me to get financed ($7000) and made it sound like the WIOA Grants were permanently suspended. That's the complete opposite of what they were implying last week.

Sage Trucking school is only $5150 if I do choose to go through financing. I'm trying to exhaust all my options here first. I bet they even lied about my recruiter leaving the company. I'm crossing Roadmaster off my list. They're a bunch of cunts.

Their answering system voice is annoying. Was on hold 4 minutes and hung up. What's bobbies extension?

Makes sense that since the funding is gone that things change.

If you go through a school, you will owe the 5k-7k no matter what happens, if you get a shitty job or a good one. Meanwhile if you just take the training through one of the decent megas you will make money while training and only owe money if you don't stay a year.

I simply can not see the school option is a good deal because they aren't teaching you how to do the job and driving over the road, they are just teaching you how to pass a CDL test. Then once you get hired somewhere you are gonna get put in their training for however long they require a new driver to run as a team.

TBH, you can self study to pass the restricted license online. There are shitloads of practice tests online that have the actual real questions and answers on them. Just study those and memorize the answers.

After that you can self study the pre-trip. I knew most of my pre-trip before I ever got a trainer. Meaning as far as the CDL license goes the only thing you need to have a trainer for is learning how to back up a trailer and do the different back ups the test requires and get road experience for the road test.

As far as the backing up, these schools and even the mega trainers don't really teach you how to "back-up" a truck. They teach you when to turn the steering wheel and look for turn points in the mirror for specific backing maneuvers. You only learn to back up the truck by doing it in real situations and from experance.

Meaning when you pay these schools you're just paying them to be trained like a assembly line to pass a test and use their truck for that test.

Even if all you wanted was the CDL it's still cheaper to go somewhere like Prime because you go there do your week's orientation, get a trainer go out on the road for 2 weeks (usually), come back do a bunch of practicing on your back ups then take your tests.. You could then pass the test, get your CDL and walk away with the CDL. You'd then be on the hook for the $4,5k which is still $1k cheaper than that other school.

You can maybe find cheaper via one of the other Megas as I think Prime is on the higher side but they have a good training program. Some will only hit you in the $3k range if you don't stay a year.

I did check into Prime and the weight limit for pets is 30 lbs so I called and was told that they'd give leeway up to 50 lbs but no more. That was the main reason I wanted to certify my dog as a service animal but that option turned out to be more difficult than I expected. I've talked to several drivers that told me not to even mention my dog because they'll never see him anyways but I just can't do that if I know there are rules against it.

Roehl transport is suppose to be one of the most pet friendly trucking companies but even they have a 50 lbs max on pets. So, I kept calling around and did start to find a few that didn't have any limitations on pets as long as they're non aggressive. None of these places offered training but some did offer to reimburse.

I figured I would have more freedom finding a company that will accept my dog if I just got my CDL from a school. I also wouldn't have to be away from him as long and saving me 4 weeks of boarding fees. I still have to figure out what I'm going to do with my RV as well when I go in for training. I'm thinking I'll put all my belongings into storage and put the RV up for consignment or maybe I should wait and find a storage unit for the RV as well.

I didn't know Uber Freight existed either. I was kidding about the friend of a friend of a friend saying if you didn't get my sarcasm lol but I came across that video and thought of you. Prime seens like good people too. You're putting obstacles in your way worrying about the weight of your dog nobody cares and nobody will notice. They need driver so get out there and start making some money :thumbsup

I'm hoping everything happens for a reason. I really want to believe that. I've been going to church for the past three weeks. It's a mormon church. I met some missionaries when I was at the dog park one day.

Well if you go the Mormon route you're guaranteed a young wife and lots of kids plus an air tight small community of support and full employment the only negative is giving a lot of your money & time to the church.

Well what I was mentioning before is even if you get a CDL through a school you will still have to do team training with another driver at whatever company you go to. It doesn't matter where you get your CDL, you will have no experience driving a truck as a job. Meaning no matter where you go, expect to get put on a trainers truck for most likely a few months.

No company is going to say here's the keys go have fun to a new CDL holder who has no experience. In all honestly if a company tried to put you out there with less than 90 days team driving with a trainer then I'd run very fast away..

as far as uber freight. You have to be a owner operator with your own insurance and DOT numbers and it's still very new.

Was thinking about this today, I have a buddy that couldn't get a WIOA grant because he is not a displaced worker, so he is going to Millis Transfer's school in June and is going to run for them. What ended up happening, did you manage to get into a school?
