While Garza's gestures appear to have a partial resemblance to the so-called "peckerwood" and "white power" hand, Jake Hyman, a spokesperson for Anti-Defamation League, said they "don't think there is any white supremacist intention here.”

Additionally, they said Garza’s hand symbols don’t exactly match anything in their online library of more than 170 hate symbols.

On Tuesday, Garza spoke with Dallas Morning News and denied he or any member of Guyger's family has connections to white supremacists. He also said he was being silly when making a "6" and a "9" because they were celebrating Guyger's father's birthday at Joe’s Crab Shack in 2016.

"It's was his 69th birthday, so it was a 69," said Garza. "That's all it was."

Garza also went on to say that he is not racist.

"My last name is Garza. I'm a Mexican," he said. "I don't care about your nationality. I don't care about the color of your skin. We all bleed red."

"None of these are racist photos," said Garza, 43, a former chef. "I am not racist."
