Kind of a toss-up. CNN Now projects that republicans will keep the senate, and dems will win just enough seats to control the house.

Just wondering: They haven't counted California yet. If California went 100% dem, would this be enough to take more seats?

Yes it would. Republicans hold several seats in Cali and are likely going to hold them. If, somehow, all of Cali's districts went Democrat they would pick up more seats in the House.

In the Senate, no. There are only 35 seats up total and the only one is Cali will be a Democrat.

If it went 100% dem sure, but there is a lot of Cali that is Republican districts. It will be about a 30-33 seat gain it looks like overall.

There's about 3-4 D to R flips no one seems to be accounting for... Probably 5 as NY Times has a 5 seat margin of error on their "composition"

Just did a refresh and NY Times went from Dem 230 to Dem 229...

They are calling these races too early.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/el...ts/2018/house/ is only listing called House races and they say it is Dems +24 right now. There are a lot of races yet. Dems have 228 as projected seats, 10 more than what they need and a gain of 33.

President Trump called Leader Pelosi at 11:45 p.m. this evening to extend his congratulations on winning a Democratic House Majority. He acknowledged the Leader’s call for bipartisanship in her victory remarks.

Actually, I say there isn't hope for Dem's in the Senate till 2020-22 but there is a small chance coming. In this current election, 2 Republican senators held on to their seats but both are currently under indictment by federal prosecutors.

If either of these guys is found guilty, it's pretty likely they'd lose their seat which would mean special elections before 2020. Meaning if Dem's can make it a 1 or 2 seat race now, they could potentially gain seats before 2020.

Really? Thats good of him.

Glad to see Dems taking control of the House. Hate the dems all you want, but its this kind of thing that makes democracy work.

No Mark, people winning that you agree with is NOT what "makes democracy work".

People VOTING is what makes Democracy happen. And then ACCEPTING the will of the people is what makes Democracy WORK.

So now that the people have voted and the House has flipped...will Republicans suddenly lose their minds like the Democrats and media did the last 2 years?

Nope. They will accept the will of the people. There will be no march on Washington. No riots. Nobody getting beat up for wearing a "Nancy Pelosi" hat.

meh - I don't really see much whining. I think the republicans got too comfortable with the "The polls are wrong just like 2016" line. The polls were more correct this time.

I think this was a bad result for the republicans but not catastrophic. Trump will serve out his term and have a very very hard battle for re-election.

Nah Dems won't get anything accomplished but obstruction. Anything they pass will die in the Senate. Trump has 2 years of Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters to talk about.

Reps will likely get whatever that want through the house the remainder of this term and send them to Senate.. Senate sits on them until first of the year for guaranteed pass.
