Here is your answer:
All the socilaized medicine ( i hate to use the word with anything " social" in it while talking to Americans :1orglaugh) has obvious deficiencies. The main one is that "special care, unusual or experimental care" is hard to come by and yes there are waiting lists ( sometime even for cancer treatments). Having said that, NOBODY EVER goes bankrupt. Nobody getting diabetes, cancer or other " pre pre coditional" illnesses or in general, lacks sufficient care.
I am of the opinion ( and that is based on a personal experience) that under social medicine rules there is always an option to pay extra to get extra. This ( for example) is available in truly socialized medicine country as Canada or the Czech republic.
