A Million-Mile Electric Car Battery? Musk Wasn’t Lying

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-G...snt-Lying.html

The researchers from Dalhousie University have an exclusive agreement with Tesla, and two months ago they reported that they had designed battery cells with higher energy density without using the solid-state electrolyte that many believe is a necessary condition for enhanced density. What’s more, the battery cell that the team designed demonstrated a longer life than some comparable alternatives.

This second paper builds on that, it seems. It details a “moderate-energy-density lithium-ion pouch cell chemistry” that, according to the authors, should serve as a benchmark for other researchers. Those other researchers will probably appreciate it because “cells of this type should be able to power an electric vehicle for over 1.6 million kilometers (1 million miles) and last at least two decades in grid energy storage.”

So, I went looking... and it is first about concept.
The concept of electric vehicles. One that they are about to find themselves at a quick disadvantage. I have high confidence in GM's CEO. She came to the company from a very low level and may be the only CEO in 40 years in a major US auto co that ever worked the floor of the organization. I believe she has GM's core values and interest at heart. She is not just another bean counter CEO. More on GM later...

Lets just look at what is coming down the consumer pipeline...
Sure to at least get your interest, even if you can't afford it (like a Tesla Roadster)
This Monster from China

OK, not many are going for that just for practicality and price.
Also from China this... (60 Minutes that aired Feb 24)

This young fella summed it up pretty good for financials on NIO vs Tesla and keep in mind this from 5 months ago... It seems clear they intend to dominate electric car market worldwide with north America quickly in their cross-hairs.
Because that's where the money is.

NIO has several models that will simply be much more price competitive than 'ANY' gas model domestically built. This is the major issue.

So, I am predicting as I did when GM shut down those plants, that electrics were on their mind. but in what way ? We will have to wait on that.

The location for building these new electric models will probably be decided on supply chain logistics. And that can be complicated, but I am going to guess that after they figure it out, they will be looking for tax breaks.

There is little time so I would expect to hear something on this within the next year.

GM could change the way we think about cars in general in their version of 'some models'.
Being those that are designed for ride sharing and not personal ownership. that play is coming and the early bird gets the worm. So, I'm guessing they will play all angles.

FYI... electrics are going to be 'sexy' and sold no matter how you think about them now.
I see the same with motorcycles. There must be 6 new powerhouses in electric bikes.
Do a goggle search on them.

GM to reopen Oshawa plant as part of new deal with Unifor

https://smartcdn.prod.postmedia.digi...trip=all&w=564

Officials in southern Ontario’s automotive supply chain are ecstatic over General Motors’ decision to reopen its sprawling Oshawa Assembly Complex calling it unprecedented and a huge opportunity for the corridor’s deep pool of companies supplying the industry.

As part of the tentative contract settlement reached at 3 a.m. Thursday with Unifor, GM confirmed it will invest $1.3-billion to ready the plant for production of Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks beginning in January 2022.

I did stop playing the market in general, but I did buy 100 shares of nio about 2 months ago...
17.53 in sept, near 50 today.

https://www.bing.com/search?q=nio&fo...99a179915816f2

10-15 more bucks and I will sell out my original investment and let it ride.
Nothing better than not worrying if it takes a dump after that. But it's only 100 shares.

May sell it all and use it as a down payment on a tesla ? LOL
I want a harley livewire before I get to old to ride it.

The skateboard design will change what types of cars/truck will be available, but I see a huge aftermarket potential. In body types to fit on a older skateboard.
That will not take hold till they start using the new million mile battery in the skateboards.

Tesla says next year... gm right behind them. That caddy may be the first for gm.
Going to be pricey.
