Yep, it sure was mate - I really miss it. Loads of stuff I missed out of course, like working for the UK satellite channels before going stateside and all the stuff I dd with Paul Raymond Magazine group etc...
But what a lot of readers wont realise though, is that back when I first picked up a video camera, in the UK, and started shooting my own stuff, the entire legal landscape was totally different to how it is today... Even selling tits and bum stuff was pretty much illegal, but proper hardcore porn, actually producing it, was a real proper crime! The chances of getting in real hot water were very high indeed, and well that added to risk, it added to the value of the product.
Here's a true thing that most non UK people wouldn't realise. Say you filmed a real life couple having loving, yet vanilla sex. They are both CLEARLY over the age of 18, they both get naked, guy gets aroused, 'makes love' in missionary position, and you film it. No fetish, no angle, no side, no violence... Just loving sex between a married couple...
So, you wanna sell it? Well you can't even advertise it directly - So you have to build up a list of 'trusted customers' who have purchased softcore pics from you in the past, and hope that you are not dealing with a narc. Then, you can't put it in the post - you have to find a courier service - Which wasn't easy back in the late 80s, as they just were not around.
Should you think, 'Fuck It, no one will find out' and just stick it in the post, heaven fucking help you if you got caught ! You see, as it 'couldn't' be certified (No 'R18' back then) by definition you were selling 'Obscene Material' which was in direct contradiction to the Obscene Publications Act (1964) -
Strike 1.
Because you used the post, you have committed a crime against the Royal Family - As it was, and still is 'The ROYAL Mail' -
Strike 2
But the cherry on the fucking top, was that as it Pornography, It was a crime of a SEXUAL NATURE against none other the Queen Herself -! That was
Strike 3 & OUT!!!
Not only were you looking at automatic guaranteed jail time, and a massive fine - (Have to sell your house kinda massive fine) - when you got out of jail, and you had nowhere to live, you then had unenviable pleasure of having to visit the police station each week, to sign your name in a little book called 'The Sex Offenders Register'... For at least 10 years, meaning you couldn't go on holiday, leave the country, or even move fucking house without having to seek approval from the police...
All for selling a simple fuck film in the UK...
Yeah, I know that sounds pretty unbelievable in this day and age of pornhub and mobile phone camera uploads and stuff, but back in the day (When I were but a lad) that was really what I was dealing with... The risks I was taking... But I took them, and came out the other side. I was born into this business. Its all I understood how to do :upsidedow
I couldn't BELIEVE IT when I hit porn valley and realised anyone could shoot ANYTHING and dupe it onto a VHS, and sell it by the pallet load - With zero legal restrictions ? Paradise !!! lol
America was like a playground for me, where I could do pretty much anything I wanted to, within the porn market, but without fear of heavy jail time or fines etc. I was able to creatively express myself and show off my abilities, which lead to all the stuff that came later with the studios etc :)
But yeah, it's nice to be free of all of it now - Not looking over my shoulder etc but I really do miss those early days :2 cents:
Anyway, just for full reference, incase Im asked again in the future and I can only find this thread to reference, this was my wife, Layla~Jade:
