Genie was not white. He was a fantastic creature of an unknown race. Perhaps his fantastic race was based on Arabians (since the story was written there), so black is the most closest color for this character in the movie. Will Smith must be ok, IMHO.

Perfect example on TV recently. 'Years and Years' written by Russell T Davies, who has a great track record in fantastic TV shows. Viewing figures really dropped as the 6 episodes progressed, because people realised all the box ticking. It really was trying to be all things to all groups and represent EVERY POSSIBLE Demographic... and, as is reality, it just didn't really work.

Then look back at his early work. 'Queer as Folk' - FUCKING FANTASTIC! OK, so if you dont wanna watch something about gay guys, then it's not for you, but it was what it was, a superb snapshot of a group of people, in the late 90s, going about their lives and the dramas that unfolded...
