A lot of people are making more money than ever in adult, it's just not the same people and it's not as easy, but remember the time period you are yearning for was pre-facebook, pre-netflix, and pre-iphone. It's a totally different world and that's not Pornhub's fault.

Who's "angry"?
I think that some adult webmasters and creators (myself included) are lamenting the days when more posts had meaningful practical information in them, than not.
It was also the early day "programmers turned pornographers" who messed up the adult billing ecosphere with their scammy credit card rebill tricks.
Evolution and natural selection certainly applies to the adult biz, but just as with nature, some of us miss the "dinosaurs".
It's good to see so many double-decade(ish) players still here though.
