I just stayed long time in Playa del Carmen and now Puerto Vallarta. Playa del Carmen isn't so nice anymore. Here i see only friendly Mexicans. Neighbours making traditional food. Have small talk. If they want to rob drunk tourist waving with iphones, they go to Cancun and Playa del Carmen :) But here also people being robed, they spray some ketchup or so on you and than help you clean your wallet. But that is everywhere in the world. In Thailand i was lucky they broke open 4 bungalows next to me and stole everything. But mine they didn't break open. In Playa del Carmen the cops and drunk americans caused the biggest problems. https://media.tacdn.com/media/attrac...b/27/70/8e.jpg https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/b/casc...o-34469750.jpg |

Looks there is suddenly a lot of stinking seaweed at the coast of Cancun.
Better avoid it. Holbox or the islands in front have less problems. |
The sargassum is supposedly coming from Brazil.
In other news, a few nights ago at 10:40 pm my neighbor 3 doors down knocked on my door to tell me they were robbed of their cash, jewelry and MacBooks by bandits who came through the back window and let themselves out the front door. I didn't ask, but I think they are Argentinian as there are many here. There were many celebrating in the streets after they won the World Cup. I didn't realize up to 97% of Argentinians are considered white |

If you had 3 iphones stolen, you didn't learn.
I have a cheap phone i use outdoors. I went out a lot in Mexico DF, didn't have much problems. All depends where you go. Same everywhere. I saw in Monica Beach in L.A. a child of a tourist being attacked by a drunk homeless guy. The Mexican father had to kick him away. |
Well, I didn't lose any phones the first 4 years in Mexico.
I suppose locals became much more desperate during COVID or my luck ran out. I now only carry my phone if absolutely necessary, don't stay out late anymore and stay sober. Oh and if you're driving in Mexico, be EXTREMELY cautious when driving through intersections. Not all intersections have stop signs and I hear or see a collision due to this on a weekly basis. Not to mention the amount of babies I see being held by their mothers on the back of mopeds with no helmets. I have never seen so many people with missing limbs in my life. |
