Back in the 70's bands were allowed to experiment and many classics came from that. Trouble was executives wanted a formula and started to create one - from look to song style. Every band and singer was made to fit into a peg and it all started sounding the same. Rap music offered some relief until people got bored of that.
Now what you find are artists going back and playing the oldies or bands changing their sound to a band from the 60s or 70s. I find it amazing the new Beatles song is coming out strong - which shows how the exec's were wrong. |

To be candid, after listening to Sister Sin, RedScale, Danko Jones, and Church of the Cosmic Skull, I have to be realistic as that some of the new stuff is significantly better than a lot of the music I listed to in the late 80s. And while Currently Sober has a point about only so many notes, there's still so much innovation that happens, and some by accident. |

Now, I'm sitting here, listening on much more expensive headphones than I owned then, enjoying the music, but I probably won't even think about it, unless maybe I have a publication editor ask me for pitches it relates to. Which, having come out in 2014/5, probably won't happen. Edit: Also, how is it that the Swedes do this type of music so well? Like every Swedish musician I ever interviewed could not wait to get to the US, but they must have a really great music scene or something. |

I think they found the formula. I was reading about it. It’s why it all sounds the same. 4/4 beat, minor key, etc. they tested it while observing brain waves. All you need to do is appeal to the women and the men will dance to it / listen to it, or effectively ruin an opportunity for a second date.
Ever notice though how women always get all giddy to the dumbest songs like mgmt or something similar? My nephew likes rush & my niece likes anything she can move to. And that’s biology. The music industry essentially biohacked women. Meanwhile no ones dancing with me to “fear of the dark” by iron maiden. 🌑 |
I totally get the nostalgia for the '90s and early 2000s tunes! 🎶 There was some real magic in the music of that era. But don't lose hope – there's still great music being made, it just might take a bit of digging to find those new gems that hit the spot like the old classics. 🕵️*♂️🎧

There is lots of good music being made today. |
Talent follows the money. John Lennon would be pranking people on youtube if he were a teenager today.

We are going to have to agree to disagree. Rush is one of my favorite bands of all time. |
