okay dig.... let's spin this in the other direction for a moment.
Let's suppose the law came down today: Flag burning is now perfectly legal and even encouraged. So.... now what? You just got what you wanted, so now what? Now we get to see hordes of homeless piss pants degenerates burning flags on courthouse steps in protest of their disfunctionality because "society didn't give them any breaks"? Maybe the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature a float of burning flags this year? Get a speeding ticket, protest it outside the courthouse by burning the flag? Maybe the next presidential campaign will go on a round robin nationwide flag burning tour to bolster the idea of free speech. Burn one at your next Parent/Teacher conference in defiance of their preformed corporate tools. Didn't like the movie? Burn a flag outside the theatre. Please explain to me how granting the right to burn a flag helps anyone. What great purpose is it serving? Give me an example that ISN'T as stupid as the one's I've just given.... tell me when would be an opportune time to whip out my flag and lighter. |

The reason they need an Ammendment, by the way, is because the Supreme Court, the ultimate guardians of the Constitution, already said that flag burning is protected by the first amendment. Another amendment would be needed to overturn that aspect of the First. |
what about Flag spray painting? Burning is too cliche.... I wanna innovate... is flag spray painting still cool? How about flag bronzing? Can I bronze a flag?

the funny part of all this is, sure... go ahead... you wanna burn the flag so damn bad, you can.... you won't go to prison. There ya go... free speech at it's finest hour.
But you'll never be able to legislate away the ass beatings you're likely to get from people whenever you torch one. |

the difference is that I served to protect our country and our freedom. You apparently served to protect a piece of cloth sold wholesale @ a dozen for 5.00 |

Idiots fight for symbols and honor, smart ones fight for tangible causes... people, children, freedom, world peace... You seem to be a very emotionally immature individual, like those who join radical muslim groups, fighting for symbols and honor while leaving their brain at the door. |

please officer, dont through me in jail!! |
Just because someone thinks the right to burn a flag should be preserved, doesn't mean they want to run around burning flags all day.
Flag burners are idiots, who don't realize how lucky they have it...but America's always given idiots rights they don't understand or appreciate. The ability to burn your own flag is one incredibly visible (as well as useless and imbecilic) action that seperates the US from places like Iraq under Hussein and other similar dictators. It's not the most important, or the most useful, but it is definitely a visible sign of freedom which those types of countries lack. Let the retards burn their flags if they want. |
