if you followed my posts youd know I am a HUGE Lennon fan, to think I dont know the release date of Imagine is silly. I have been quoting his lyrics all day.

I have a poster on the wall next to me with the date and his death date guy.

;)

Smells like teen spirit was a good choice, most humans love the feeling of power, and that whole song is pure power.

It is pathetic because nobody will care about the song in 20 years. Take Queen for example. Timeless music.

There is so many recent smash number one hits in that list that most people can't listen to anymore, cuz they've gotten sick of it.

um.. hasn't it been 12 years already? as much as I wouldn't personally put it at #1 it's not like they're competing with the beatles or more seminal 60's influences.
but I agree with observations made about some of the other songs. It's too early in the "25 years" to be putting eminem anywhere in there.

I call it "the screaming song"...... best in the past 25 years? Oh please.

Comfortably Numb
Back in Black

these might be more than 25 years old though . . . . when you stop to think of it, there has been a lot of crap in the 80's and beyond

bhutocracy 06-10-2003 06:22 PM

what do people think is the best song since '78?

detoxed 06-10-2003 06:31 PM

get to know about Kurt Cobain, that will make the music a lot better...

Listen to "Polly", its a song about a true story where a girl was kidnapped and tortured and finally managed to escape.

The lyrics make the song... Kurt played for the music not for the fame.. Courtney got involved and tried to get him more money, more fame, he just played the music and was actually not into the fame.

volante 06-10-2003 06:37 PM

Nothing by Metallica, yet "MMMbop" by Hanson makes it into the top 100?

:eek7

Lemme edit that (just found Enter Sandman):

Allow me to shed some light on a common bit of ignorance:

Popular does not mean good. Popular certainly does not mean "best of the last 25 years".

(($popular ne $good) && ($popular ne $best))

Blitz 06-10-2003 07:34 PM

"Gin and Juice" by phish should be # 2

It has to be good to stay popular... advertising might start it but in order for it to stay popular it has to be good

Nope. Back in Black and Comfortably Numb (The Wall) were released in 1980.
