could be happenstance, but that song by nirvana knocked mainstream over from bands like Poison, Warrant, Guns and Roses, Motley Crue, and began the grunge movement?everything switched to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Lollapalooza, etc, from my point of view

its not that it was the greatest song written, it was its large impact?the song had a very simple bass line as well

I think there are a half dozen songs or more on NIN's *Pretty Hate Machine* I enjoy more. And let's not even get into Ministry.

These are the top ten most influential songs since 1978? I don't find the list so disagreeable as I do the order. I think 'Stayin Alive' by the Bee Gees and 'Relax' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood are glaring omissions.

Nirvana ain't Beethoven... the songs just have soul... It's the man's voice -- it's like he's throwing up his soul on the sidewalk for you to lick it up -- but you sing along and start hurling too.

But sure it's probably music you can grow out of as the hormones stop raging...

Well, if VH1 is basing their decision on how influential this song was based on sheer impact, rap and hip-hop had also advanced quickly in the previous 25 years?the bands that I listed above had songs that were also instrumental in bringing this type of music to the mainstream scene

Rap went from being non-existent to being a large part of our culture in a very short time

TheFLY 06-10-2003 09:20 PM

yes 14) Sinead O?Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U

dammit! it's in my head... :(

This song gets waaaay too much credit. It's probably one of RUN-DMC's worst songs... It's not even an original song! Jam Master J has got some way way better beats -- like the one from Peter Piper...

influental and good are not always the same thing. Fact is those songs on the list that titmouse posted almost all herald in an era of a type of music.

Ba Ba Black Sheep or Hickory Dickory Dock by the Tele Tubbies are my personal favourites.
