Frankly I don't think it's any of your business unless you plan on being supportive and trusting of her at an appropriate arm's length. Incidentally, I misspoke on the price. It was $5500, according to my wife. You sound like you know enough about horses to know, but for benefit of others reading the thread, that $5500, $7500, $9500 is not a very expensive horse, there are kids at the show 14 or 15 ridding $20,000 horses.

I've posted about this passion of mine before. There aren't too many guys riding horses in the U.S. but I have had them for many years.

If you want my advice as a glamour photographer of many years you will try your best to talk her out of becoming a model. Some photographers can be too pushy and ask models to do more and more and a new model is particularly susceptible to this sort of pressure. It is true that guys viewing websites do ask for harder and harder content and to be fare its the photographers job to get as much out of his models as possible, but there is a limit and some do cross that line.

If you just cannot reason with her try to steer her away from Internet work and more towards magazines. If she is as cute as you say she will make more money and usually the magazine photographers are better known and safer to shoot with. Examples of excellent photographers here in LA are J,Stephen Hicks. Suez Randell, Holly Randell . All these guys are well known photographers.

Ask yourself this:

a) Does she have any qualifications?
b) Is she of any use to anyone on the planet in a non porn way?
c) Can she afford her drug habbit?
d) Is she a lazy little bitch?
e) Is she an attention seeker who would love to be Madonna but has no talent what so ever?

I think that you will come to the conclusion after answering the above and from the way you describe her that she really is suited to porn.

Maturity comes through life experiences. Has your daughter ever worked? Did she finish high school? Does she have any plans to further study? Does she lives alone or not?

From the things i read your daughter is not mature enough to take such a decision. It's your obligation as a father to protect her interests. Her decision might influence her life forever.

Yeah.. I've ridden since I could walk, and I was an assistant to the head trainer of Spruce Meadows. Dunno if you've heard of it.. But anyone heavy in the equestrian world generally has. Johnathan Aislinn is his name. He was at the Olympics a few years back.. He retired from training for the meadows when he married the owner's daughter, and opened his own place.. I worked for him there. I also trained my own showhorses (I had a purebred arabian mare I used in the shows.. she was absolutely solid, but I hand-raised her). Generally though those Circuits include dutch warmbloods, hanoverians, traehkaners, thoroughbreds , irish warmbloods, those breeds. Quarter horses are too bunchy in the back end and they're sprinters, they generally don't have the staying power to keep it afloat over a real eventing course. I prefer to keep my quarter horses in the team penning events :) I rode rodeo for a few years too with family.. that was a wild ride.

As for pricetags, yes, that's about average for a good riding horse.. a little on the low end for a showhorse, but then again Ian Millar paid peanuts for Big Ben at a horseshow, no bloodlines no squat, and when the big boy passed he was worth well over a million. It's relative. I've seen blooded horses who were imported and paid hundreds of thousands for who were worthless, not even good for breeding, and nothing paperless hacks who ended up coming in and winning everything :) The average pricetag for a high-end top class eventer though generally starts in the range of $400,000 or so...

My interest in horses is more casual than yours... large pets, really. :1orglaugh We have an appoloosa, an outgrown but much beloved useless pony of unknown origin, and an Andelusian (sic?) mix. My daughter tried eventing but we never really had enough of a horse to be competitive. Always we ended up with an animal that excelled in x-country, but sucked at dessage, or vice-versa.

My wife and I just enjoy hacking along and since we only learned to ride about 10 years ago, we are not very skilled at it either, but the horses don't seem to mind.

Its just something that is in your blood; I love my horses. On a freezing winter night I can just go out back and stare at them for hours.

While I know this must be a hard... If you show your daughter support this this issue and work.. you might find it to be a good situation in the long run. I would say help her get doing... paoint her in the right direction and line her up with photographers you trust. This has to be hard though.... best of luck working through this.

If she is going to do it you should definitely stay involved so that you can watch out for her. Also it sounds like she probably thinks its easy money, and while it can be easy or enjoyable money, its not exactly like all you do is fuck and bamo you are rich. If you start showing her the ropes and showing her how much work is involved maybe she will change her mind if originally her thought was this would be easy and a quick buck.

- Offer her a job.
- Say "NO".
- Tell her about some details, so she would't be fucked up.

Would I let my son (now 3 years old) model for content when he's old enough? I love him more than anything in the world. I'd talk to him long and hard about it and let him decide for himself. I don't think it's something I'd prefer he do with his life. But I wouldn't judge him if he did. I'd support him no matter what. BUT I'd definitely open his eyes to ALL SIDES of the business. Seriously, folks...if you can draw a distinction between you doing porn and your kids getting into it when they're old enough - I think that means maybe you're not entirely sure you should be doing it.

There's the good bad and ugly with any business...and one thing to consider is porn, however you're involved, is one of the last bastions of enteuprenership out there. Try starting a coffee shop, you have to fight Starbucks, for example. There are two types of personalities out there IMHO - those that are cut out to work 9 to 5 and those that aren't.

I don't have kids myself so maybe my perspective is different. At the same time I think I can give some valuable input here. Look at Danny Ashe - a prime example of how someone with chutzpah, business skills, and looks can create an incredibly successful business. She's even been mentioned on mainstream media.

As with any self-employed person the key factors in success are stamina, perseverance and creativity. So I'd say to her - once you've broken *gently* the news that you know she may be interested in this, that there are better ways. Reality and personal sites, run by her, with a good photographer you recommend and trust, would be the way to go. Customers are always most interested in getting to know the model. Sure this approach will take a lot of work, and you have to prepare her in advance for the reality that some - but from our experience a few but not most - of these customers may be downright rude. But if she is able to establish her brand, it will pay off much better than any 9-5 job. Explain the risks, obviously - the fact you'll have many sleepless nights, at first wondering if it will take off, and then once it does, the VISA/MC thing and a-s-h etc terrorists.

Breaking into straight sites now is going to be damned difficult - but if you can find an approach that is effective you will see results. I would say it's fine for her to want to model, it's best if you guide her through your contacts. You get rid of the bullshit people who screw their models over and don't pay that way. And, if you set her up with her own site, she makes much more money and has much more potential.

Be realistic about how long it takes to get your own biz off the ground. 6 months is the best you can hope for, 1 yr more realistic. Be realistic about the competition. And be clear that while you know the good guys in porn, you can't promise this will work. It might not. And if it does you are talking 12-18 hour days seven days a week to get it going. It can pay well but lots of work is involved, some of which you could help out as far as traffic generation, your wm program, etc.

I think personally at the business level this biz is much more on the level than others - I know, I ran an internet service provider where the telcos pulled every illegal stunt to disrupt us, including "accidental disconnection" of our phone lines. In this biz people who are not on the level tend to get called on it...quickly. I say, if she really wants in and knows the challenges and risks, then help her.
