Average Americans think that polls suck and wonder why 99% of them have never participated in any of the polls they read about.

Wow. Amazing. Did you know we even have very liberal non-profit news stations here in the US?

c'mon colin. you know that 95% of americans couldn't find pacifica or any other non-corporate media unless they made a serious effort. what are the chances of that happening?

that same 95% gets all of their news and information from corporate entities such as CNN / FOX / ABC / NBC / CBS . for all the talk about a "liberal media" its just that: talk.

i could go out into the local mall tonight and ask 500 people to name the alternatives to corporate media and i bet not one of them would say anything other that "npr", which itself is a cruel joke being played on "intellectuals".

But we are not limited to only a few news institutions either, and I find that our news tends to encompass more world events than most people would think. Not much really DOES happen in Canada, but assuming your news is more diverse would likely be a mistake on your part. Come watch our news for a few weeks.. I think you would find it diverse, relevant, and fairly unbiased.

I have Newsworld International owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. I find it extremely biased against the US. The Canadian pieces are like listening to Direct Fiesta read the news. Those oh, so careful adjectives that insult the US administration, the usual epithets, selective interviews. Uh huh.

Ahh, I don't really claim that the US media is more diverse than Canadian. I imagine it is quiet the same in diversity but thought I'd get under directfiesta's skin since it's so easy. ;-) He always seems to think Americans only hear positive news about the US which is absurd. Reporters gets Pulitzers for breaking news against government, not for it.

Well, the mainstream channels we have are FOX, CNN, and MSNBC which you already know. We also have CSPAN and CSPAN2 which cover both American Houses and non-american ones at times too (British House of Commons). PBS is always good. Jim Lehrer news hour is excellent.

Directfiesta mentioned British news. I watch BBC World News and
ITV.

We have a very liberal channel "LINK TV" which bills itself as "alternative". Pretty interesting channel with news from middle east, etc.

I don't get news from France but of course not many people here speak French. This isn't Quebec. I live in Miami so we do get dozens of spanish stations but I don't know Spanish.

I can order channels in Russian and many other languages but only speak German and that's not an option. Wish it were. I need to brush up on mine.

And of course, most of the news Direct Fiesta gets all excited about is written by American journalists. Probably most of the books he reads (history, politics, and so forth) are written in the US. And of course, we have an unreal number of books and magazines published from every possible perspective.

Polls Find Americans Believe Hussein Linked to 9/11, Support War in Iraq

"WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Most Americans believe Saddam Hussein, the ousted president of Iraq, was connected to the attacks on the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, according to a new poll released on Saturday.

The Washington Post found that 69 percent of all Americans believe that Hussein worked with al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden to carry out terrorist plans nearly two years ago. In fact, the poll found that even a majority Democrats and independents believe Hussein was a key player."

Unfortunately what most people don't realize is that Saddam not being around isn't goign to change things for Osama one fucking bit. He's STILL going to make his next attempt bigger and "better" than 9/11, and the false sense of security people are getting from thinking the job is "done" is going to play the American people RIGHT into Osama's hands.

i don't know if you noticed but the week following this poll the White House wen't all out to say they had nothing to do with this notion.

if i recall correctly donald rumsfeld and condoleeza rice went on news shows to deny having implied this, and resident bush even came out and made a statement link

so obviously the white house felt this was an important poll.

The perfectly ordinary, perfectly mediocre Jean Chretian. He may be a fucktard, but he's made a lot of moves and done a lot of things that show some sense. I wish he could stick around for a while.. he may not be a "shining star" but he hasn't done anything exceedingly bad or stupid lately either.

Nope, I didnt notice because I dont watch CNN like the rest of you hahaha

Its funny when these threads come. IM an american and I do not watch cnn or fox or any of that shit. I dont even watch the LA news often. Why? Because I know its all based on fear, and i learned that shit when geraldo was making his bullshit claims about Satanist Baby Killing. Which there has NEVER BEEN ANY IN THE US EVER, but he was putting out shows left and right about the KKK and the Satanist Baby Killers.

I gave up on americas media long ago.

Please dont lump me in with your american bashing.

I am not your 'average american' I do not support what is happening and I could actually be imprisoned if I stated my beliefs on such things regarding Bush and his fucking christian kid fucking legion.

Did you read this where he says General Clark tld him he had been contacted by the Bush Admin when this first happened to go on the news and say Saddam was involved? THIS WAS BEFORE any of this crap. And WAY before your Washington Post Poll.

Right, since Canada is a constitutional monarchy the Queen is the head of state. A recent poll shows that a majority of
Canadians don?t know this basic point about their government.

Nobody prevents you from starting your own new thread.

The Poll that I cited was an American poll, done by americans ( well, maybe from outsourcing India..lol) about american beliefs...

I'v seen things like this many times more than I can count. On many occasions after something like this is thrown up in our face I've discussed it with family, friends and other fellow university students just to see if other people feel this way. Well my point in this thread certainly wasn't to go looking for the "dumb American". I honestly wanted to know if this is what Americans think. My country isn't perfect, I never claimed it was.. However I'm very realistic, I have yet to see ANY country that's perfect. But it would sadden me to think that the majority of average Americans, the guys who should be informed of better by the media and whomever else, would believe that Al Queda was gone.. I've pretty much got my answer though :)

It is funny it seems some americans on this board QUESTION their country more than others, but its always the non-americans who feel the need to daily POINT OUT America's faults.

People like me, do not follow the leader and I question everything these people try and feed us, whether its Rumsfield or Geraldo.

I've rarely seen anyone question their own country here aside from americans.

sad if you think about it.

We may be in a bad situation, but it was NOT the merican peoples fault and its a shame that these other countries feel that it is ALL of us who stand behind this christian monkey and his alcoholic war monger oil buddies.

I am american but some of US are almost ASHAMED of it, and it really disgusts me to see my country be brought down to its current level.
