Iraq was never a US ally and the US was not pro Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war. The US assisted both Iran and Iraq as the US did not want a winner...or a loser in that war.

Saw a docementry today on swedish television. Some famous Iraq/swedish writer went down for the first time in 28 years to his home country..this was not long ago.
