My :2 cents:
I'll keep in simple. So many good ones already suggested.

any (best to get all) of the Coens
a Kubrick collection is also good to have.

but then in any dvd selection you want something that's just easy to watch regardless of your mood, like a Joe Dirt, or better yet, a SuperTroopers.

but it's also good to have some comtemporary classics (if there is such a thing) like

glengary glenross
Jacob's Ladder

Sean 10-30-2003 04:11 PM

where are the 80's classics

better off dead
breakfast club
pretty in pink
16 candles
repo man
one crazy summer
valley girl
fast times at ridgemont high

Dracula 10-30-2003 04:14 PM

Akira Kurosawa... you'll see how the big hollywood epics were born (err, copied...).

I actually didn't see T3 yet. Thought if I kiss our governator's ass, maybe he can give me a pardon or something, just in case. :winkwink:

Yeah... Get Rashamon, Yojimbo, and Seven Samurai. Ran is a bit weird and drawn out.

Far-L 10-30-2003 10:51 PM

The Wild Bunch - Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece, inspiration for many, and still the best of em all

Brotherhood of the Wolf - don't know why but it is just good fun

Y tu Mama, tambien - because if we could all make porn as sexy and deep and touching as this movie we would be geniuses

Any docu-spoof by Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy and company.... Waiting for Guffman, Spinal Tap, Best in Show, The Mighty Wind... all movies that get funnier with repeated viewing...

Satyricon - Fellini's orgiastic cinematic style is perfectly suited to this tale of Ancient Rome debauchery

City of God - don't know if that is out yet but it is pretty intense, especially when those end credits roll and "based on a true story" becomes so clear...

Babe - alright... call me whatever you like but I fucking love that movie

Santa Sangre - The trippiest best slasher flick you will ever see, bar none

Tala 10-30-2003 11:19 PM

TRON

Far-L 10-30-2003 11:22 PM
