good thread, something serious for once

i find working from home to be a pain because there are no fixed hours, im usually still sitting on my pc at 2am

CyberTraffic 06-06-2004 11:42 PM

3 months later and I still feel like Kevin Spacey in American Beauty, that dude in Office Space, or Jack in Fight Club.

Still adjusting here.

True, but the problem is that all your friends work during the weekdays... and going out by yourself, is not much better than working at home by yourself...

SABAI 06-06-2004 11:53 PM

i try to go out some evenings, go buy some games or hardware, go see movies in order to break the monotony. also i force myself to take 4 to 8 days every month to go to south thailand islands. otherwise i would be getting totally mad.

Nearly all my friends are entrepreneurs also and can do whatever they want all day long.

exactly. If I go to starbucks, I just end up sitting on the patio chainsmoking like a bitch, lol. I like going there in the evenings since I'm a regular and always run into people.

hehe, I built my office in the basement, so no windows with any view. Was thinking of turning one of the spare bedrooms into an office, but I'll die of heat in the summer. The basement is so nice and coooool :)

Make sure that you go and doing something with friends once or twice a week , plus go to the gym once a day. Just make sure that days don't by where you don't leave the house, you'll get stir crazy.

No walks on the beach in the early morning?

This is one of the times...when you claim that you don't have a life and yet some asshole makes you feel like you're dying again.

So contradictory...

A lot of well-educated people who get tired of religions claiming to know it all wind up UU's.

guaranteed, if I ever came into a million bucks, I'd be sipping gin & tonics on the fucking beach for the rest of my days. Fuck work.

there is no other explaination for that other than pure greed.

Yes, but when most people earn a million, they want to make another one etc...

Exactly. Remember, even though you may feel unmotivated sometimes, think of HAVING to get up early EVERY DAY of the week for a regular 9 to 5.

I also have many friends now that work 9 to 5 and have no time for anything else because they're tired after work when they get home at 6 after fighting traffic and getting home to watch tv, eat dinner, and sleep are the only things they want to do.

I have a couple of those. Lazy fuckers. As if standing behind a counter all day with no responsibility is stressful and extremely hard work. Good God.

All the hard working people I've ever known have always been ready to do more after work. If you don't "do more" you simply become a working stiff and never really live. There are 24 hours in a day, at least 14-18 of those should be utilized.

Turn off the damn TV and LIVE.

Mutt 11-20-2004 07:45 PM

very hard to get some people in this biz to understand that the only difference in this biz than in the one in the 'real' world is that we are lucky that we don't have to wake up a set time and can work our own hours BUT not less hours, to have any success you will put in as many hours as the guy who buys some franchise or opens a store in a mall. if not you will be making beer money online, unless you are doing something scammy/spammy. no way around the amount of work necessary these days in this biz for a newbie. doesn't matter if you're running free sites, TGPs, a designer, a programmer, a content shooter, paysites - working at home doesn't mean working less - means working more, just under your own terms.

Mutt 11-20-2004 07:51 PM

some people are ok with going to an office to work but every morning I think about my sister who makes about $1,000 a week before taxes working some government job doing god knows what waking up at 6:30, showering, hair, clothes, getting on the bus - 8 hours - back on the bus ....... this is a good biz.

Major (Tom) 11-20-2004 07:51 PM

yea, working from home makes you a bit lazy, but the work still needs to get done, so basically, your laziness comes at the price of a social life. I miss a more structured life, but I like the money better being self employed.

Diligent 11-20-2004 07:59 PM

If I feel like that when I'm working, I just take a break for 20-60 minutes outside...
A walk through the neighborhood, or an "uptempo" bikeride to increase bloodflow &
oxygen-intake, is sufficient.

If I don't do that, I can only do my work halfassed for the rest of the day...
and hell no I'll let mood affect my business!

Feeling gloomy like that also sems to occur more often when not having eaten
properly - like if I've skipped breakfast.. NOT good to do!

ricks 11-20-2004 09:48 PM

i'm proud to say ive never had a real job

i see alot of escorts, helps relieve the 'boredom'

drugs keep me sane

variety is good

i'm about to start travelling alot, thinking about taking a long strange trip around the world

have laptop will travel

r0nin 11-20-2004 10:08 PM

After a year from starting doing porn, i could afford and office and fuck it was good. Work productivity is a lot better. But it's getting harder everyday to make a pause and stop working. The minute i reach home (i took both my computers from there and brought 'em to the office) it takes a while to calm down and think about something else other than work... u know, chill out, watch a movie, have a drink, call someone.

Best thing to do, which is fucking hard, separate work from pleasure time. Pleasure is needed to keep you sane, meeting people, going out, etc, no matter what kind of a psycho you can become, you'll always find people to hang out. Art, culture, etc are excellent ways also to clear my mind. Or shopping :)

And yeah... drugs are good to stay sane, definitely.

beemk 11-20-2004 10:10 PM

i still go out every weekend and hang out with friends during the week most of the time. working from home gives me more freedom to go out when i want. sometimes my friends say "i cant i have to work in the morning" or "ill be working". i never have that problem.

Paraskass 11-20-2004 10:18 PM

Working at home has it's major disadvantages.

Basically a huge part of a person's social life (meeting friends etc) is done at work or at school.

I would suggest taking some classes you might enjoy, it can be anything. Painting for example, or simply enrolling part time in school, for fun. Or, join a gym or a sports team in a "house" league.

That will allow you to meet more people. Going to bars and shit is not the best way to meet people.
