PS U-Haul lost the case.

Was U-haul suing Gator?

Gator has a long page of terms and conditions and the user actually has to agree to install the program.

With most of they adware/spyware/scumware installed today the user has no idea its been installed or even exists on their system.....totally different case in this situation I believe.

PLUS, the surfer who visits my website doesn't own the adspace on my website, I OWN THE ADSPACE ON MY WEBSITE, and anyone who tries to overwrite my ads with theirs or steal my traffic is a thief plain and simple.

Blahman 06-17-2004 12:18 AM

i also read on O-p-r-a-n-o that the owner of megapornbucks charlo barbosa has a trojan in his toolbar software to use surfers computers as proxies to send illegal spam mail through

someone also posted there is an ftc investigation under him and to contact them if they have any details to add

i believe he's in bc canada, rcmp is probably involved...i wonder how long till he is nailed, hope offshore corporations can protect him!! i think the isp the rcmp was investigating was data fortress also located in british columbia i think it was. something about some guy named shaun hedges involved as well.

Heres an easy solution... Chances are the same people that fell for the spyware will also fall for any new spyware type stuff you offer them..

Well just give them a free copy of a spyware killer along with the porn .

You make a little text box and make it on a timer to enter the words vulnerable , then make a fake test that makes them think they are vulnerable , then prompt them to install a good spyware killer..

If anyone wants a custom exe built to kill other spyware, ( and a secret on how to install it without the user knowing ) let me know

It?s look like it will be up to the programmers what they are able to do to get the customers and not up to the content you have on the site.
Maybe should get more programmers rather than good shooters:warning

Dude... do you have any idea what you're talking about? I have an anti virus running and regularly scan for scumware, spyware and adware with two separate programs? I have been online since the internet was created so i'm not a surfing idiot. The reality is you get blasted with bullshit when you go to one of their galleries and it installs all kinds of shit on your computer. It installed 18 modifications to my registry and tried to change my home page. That is not falling for something. I wasn't given the option to deny installation of this crap it was just done.

Sad, but true. God knows how hard it can be to get rid of one of these hidden adware proggies! Even for someone who knows what they are doing... :(

Im getting the impression that we should be checking every single link on all pages that carry our affiliate IDs (ie join pages, tours, etc.) and at the same time stick with well known affiliate programs.

nikcho 06-17-2004 07:29 AM

Sorry that the posting may be irrelevant but when I visit sites I do not trust I always use my Mozilla Firefox browser (www.mozilla.org) - With it you control everything.

All these drive-by installations are because of weaknesses in Internet Exploder. If an IFRAME tag can bypass the general security settings and trick Explorer into believing that the script that is downloaded from god-knows-where has local permissions (as if it is running from your home machine), then we are talking some serious breach...

And what we see is a lot of people exploiting it, maybe for not so noble purposes. Sad but true...

Vitasoy 06-17-2004 07:41 AM

Never liked those spyware, browser hijacking software offering sites.

Blahman 06-17-2004 08:16 AM

i wonder why no reply from them?

L0stMind 06-17-2004 08:18 AM

It's only 8 am. No one up/at the office yet.

justsexxx 06-17-2004 08:48 AM

Nasty, who is the owner of MPB?

Andre

Blahman 06-17-2004 08:52 AM

charlo barbosa and whitney i believe

they have already been sued by the ftc for this sort of stuff and lost

L0stMind 06-17-2004 08:55 AM

blahman, where do you get your info from?

I believe you are incorrect...

Blahman 06-17-2004 08:59 AM

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/08/pornpics.htm

:)

there is other documents on this case as well

he is shady

the new investigation i believe is the ftc got ahold of their porn toolbar software or something 9 months ago and found trojans in it, so they are forming their investigation now. this spyware stuff probably won't be too good either.

L0stMind 06-17-2004 09:05 AM

Isnt that ancient news and unrelated?

Just curious.

jm_247live 06-17-2004 09:05 AM

This is some disturbing news. I have enough other crap to worry about now this too.

Blahman 06-17-2004 09:09 AM

thats a past ftc case

you don't see the reflection here? if not your blind :)
when your already a target for the ftc, your a TARGET. you and everybody involved. especialy when you settle, your guilty.

hopefully all their affiliates won't be investigated for promoting illegal software and spamming

Jer 06-17-2004 09:11 AM

If you don't know the facts don't try and guess... this is how bullshit rumors get started.

I say we chill until we hear from the facts from the source.

Blahman 06-17-2004 09:26 AM

Whitney is not a part owner of the company.

Blahman 06-17-2004 09:30 AM

Nope, she does marketing.

Did they buy you a dinner and you think they are amazing because you've never been spoiled? Sucker...

scoreman 06-17-2004 09:33 AM

This will be interesting to see what kind of spin MPB will put on this. Rogue webmaster and technical glitch seem to be unavailable...

The chargebacks on those hijacked joins to paycom must have been over 1%.

indeed...

blahman.. whitney is far from an owner... she just a hired sales rep and " if " what you say is true then she would have nothing to do with it so do not assume that she is involved... Whitney is a class act all the way and just because you have beef with the company probably because you had your account closed for whatever reason... i don't know your reasons, but please don't assume things...

come on

you don't know your company is doing shady practices? and it's already settled an ftc suit?

give me a break :1orglaugh

49thParallel 06-17-2004 09:38 AM

Just curious...is everyone sitting around bitching and complaining.

Or are at least a few of you going to one of the alledged Megapornbucks sites...documenting what is happening to your system registry...and then sending off your findings to the FTC.

It takes action to get action.

And now to back up my words. Post one of the offending links. I'll go through the motions, and document the system changes..and make a report as well.

Do you work for the national inquirer assclown.

Do you know Whitney ? Did you ever talked to her ?

Like Rocki said she's a rep, handles the affiliate program and does a damn good job at it...

AND

Like Adrian said, let's wait to see how this is going to get handle by the law because we are all just a bunch of webmasters that are beleiving what they reading. And lord knows most of the webmasters here are so fucking gullible...

BTW Did I tell you I fucked president Bush daughter last night

49thParallel 06-17-2004 09:46 AM

Of course...as always...there is a certain irony to this.

Many of the people who are complaining about alledgedly losing their commissions due to redirecting, are the very same people who freely promote websites that scam the consumer...ripping them off of their hard earned cash.

This includes "the penis pills" (really, are any of you really that stupid to think that an OTC pill can cause localized skin and organ growth). And then, my favorite Adult Site scam. (Which virtually all of the majors on this board employ). The "amazing rebilling trial". You know, the one where you get a 3 day trial....and some where a couple thousand words down in the T & C's you will find the clause "must be cancelled at least 24 hours before end of trial" to avoid rebilling. Throw in a couple of rebilling cross-sells, and the surfer could be in for quite a surprise come CC statement time.

Yep, the scammers being scammed. Somewhere along the line, the sympathy kind of disappears....

dude sometimes i'm last to know we even have new sites out... give me a break... you are just attacking them because of something personal between you and them... it shows in your posts... if it wasn't personal with you then you would agree that you shouldn't assume a sales person may or may not be involved...
