Yes it would seem that energy is weightless. I was wrong about the 4 ounces, it is actually three-fourths of an ounce. Here is an excerpt of one experiment.

The patient was under observation for three hours and forty minutes before death, lying on a bed arranged on a light framework built upon very delicately balanced platform beam scales.

The patient's comfort was looked after in every way, although he was practically moribund when placed upon the bed. He lost weight slowly at the rate of one ounce per hour due to evaporation of moisture in respiration and evaporation of sweat.

During all three hours and forty minutes I kept the beam end slightly above balance near the upper limiting bar in order to make the test more decisive if it should come.

At the end of three hours and forty minutes he expired and suddenly coincident with death the beam end dropped with an audible stroke hitting against the lower limiting bar and remaining there with no rebound. The loss was ascertained to be three-fourths of an ounce.

This loss of weight could not be due to evaporation of respiratory moisture and sweat, because that had already been determined to go on, in his case, at the rate of one sixtieth of an ounce per minute, whereas this loss was sudden and large, three-fourths of an ounce in a few seconds.

The bowels did not move; if they had moved the weight would still have remained upon the bed except for a slow loss by the evaporation of moisture depending, of course, upon the fluidity of the feces. The bladder evacuated one or two drams of urine. This remained upon the bed and could only have influenced the weight by slow gradual evaporation and therefore in no way could account for the sudden loss.

There remained but one more channel of loss to explore, the expiration of all but the residual air in the lungs. Getting upon the bed myself, my colleague put the beam at actual balance. Inspiration and expiration of air as forcibly as possible by me had no effect upon the beam. My colleague got upon the bed and I placed the beam at balance. Forcible inspiration and expiration of air on his part had no effect. In this case we certainly have an inexplicable loss of weight of three-fourths of an ounce. Is it the soul substance? How other shall we explain it?

Hehe, good thinking... But the downforce isn't equivalent to the body weight of the bird. :winkwink:

Nick I strongly disagree with you on this. When you die your physical self dies, your conscious self and your soul continue on.

Be it sight, sound, smell, or touch,
There's something inside, that we need so much.
The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound,
Or the strength of an oak, with roots, deep in the ground.
The wonder of flowers, to be covered, and then to burst up,
Through tarmac, to the sun again, or to fly to the sun,
Without burning a wing, to lie in a meadow,
And hear the grass sing. To have all these things,
In our memories hoard, and to use them,
To help us, to find the lost chord...

Obviously not with sight, smell, hearing and touch... souls don't have a body.

That is strange for sure, but don't you think we had found the soul if it is a mass in your body? Or could it be invisible? But if it is invisible, where would it be? Docters have been in almost every part of the body where there could be something invisible right? So if they would toutch the soul they should feel it being there. Still strange that there was lost of bodyweight :2 cents:

Imagine your mind right now.

Now release your consciousness and allow it to float.

Start to fly around the room with just your mind.

Now go through the walls. Your mind can do this even though your physical body can not.

See your body is an extension of your mind, your consciouness your soul, not the other way around.

At night when you dream you do this easily without even thinking about it.

You're able to connect with other souls past and present because you've left the physical world and entered the higher dimensions where everything is based on the mind only without the restrictions and limitations of a body.

More than convenient, it's the only way to fly! :winkwink:

You use non physical senses whenever you practise deep meditation or prayer or every night when you "fall" asleep. The very process of falling asleep is you leaving your body. Many people have experienced the paralysis or vibrations that occur at the start of this state. Or the butterflies in stomach feeling on a rollercoaster as our body and soul becomes slightly separated.

Society is full of expressions hinting that we are not our bodies.

"He was beside himself with rage"
"Sorry say that again, my mind was a thousand miles away"

etc etc

Haven't you been driving to work and wondered if you locked the door or turned off the oven or thinking about something and suddenly realized you don't remember driving the last 10 miles because your mind was somewhere else, yet you still managed to stop at the traffic lights and make the right exit? :)

If you watch yourself falling asleep each night, with practise you will become aware that you are indeed pure energy and not that body snoring on the bed.

Docters have been in almost every part of the body where there could be something invisible right? So if they would toutch the soul they should feel it being there. Still strange that there was lost of bodyweight :2 cents:

I don't think the soul is a mass in the body, I think it is somehow connected within the body but lies in a different dimension. The weight loss thing I have no answer for and it may not mean a thing, but it is interesting.

Excellent way of putting it. I don't think Richard Bach could have said it better.

Nick I strongly disagree with you on this. When you die your physical self dies, your conscious self and your soul continue on.

Having spent 30 years researching this, I'm convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt this is the case.

After 30 years you must have realized that a soul, your conscious self needs a brain to function?? A brain that no longer works when you die.

This shows how ignorant you really are.

Why do you insist on continuing to talk about something you know nothing about?

Suddendly, all the birds break free and begin flying inside the airplane.
Does the plane become 2 tons lighter?

Thats sort of like saying your a train moving at 100+ MPH and you jump up in the air. Would yu get slammed agaisnts the back wall of the train. Things in motion stay in motion, you are traveling at the same speed as the train and you would land in the same spot you jumped from.

And if the birds were flying in the free space of the plain there is no added weight, there for the plain would not be 2 tons lighter or heavier.:2 cents:

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts,
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

If this thread proves anything it's that people just have no idea about how complex the human brain is.

When people talk about souls, what they really mean to say is the brain.

You know what's really cool? You don't need to take my or anyone elses word for it. You also don't need to wait til you die to prove it one way or the other or until dear departed Uncle harry gives you a "sign" from the great beyond. Read more about it and practise until you experience it yourself.

That way it isn't - a pile or crap
- a reasonable explanation
- a belief

but rather a known, something that you know to be real and true because you have first hand experience.

Then when someone tells you it's not real, you can respect their opinion but inside know that they might as well have said "the sky isn't blue" or something else that you know to be fact. :thumbsup

I'd love to see a non-physical eye.

It is called the mind's eye.... and everyone has one.

Everyone with a mind that is.

I used to believe that the stars and planets in our universe were charged particles inside galaxies (molecules), which made up one large particle inside of a much larger universe. I imagined that our universe was but one tiny bit of matter inside a giant's coffee table in that much larger universe.

Lately I have learned that our universe is expanding at a certain rate, which led me to alter my theory somewhat. I now think that we are a tiny particle inside a piece of chewing gum, and some giant and rather hot teen babe model is blowing a bubble right now in that much larger universe. Since our universe is part of that bubble, our universe expands with the bubble. In the time it takes this giant teen model to blow that bubble and burst it, approximately 450 million of our years are passing.

We have about 25 minutes left before the bubble bursts. Who wants to fuck?

Thank you oh great knower of all.

You know, your opinon is but an unproven belief too. You come off sounding like your belief is the only one that could be right, and it's making you look foolish.

Mr. Marks 06-21-2004 07:13 PM

if we are, then the possibilities are endless. qouting "The Beach" by alex garland (not verbatim, but this is how it went)--if you believe that the universe is infinite, then there are infinite possibilites as well.

kinda out of topic, but i got reminded of it.

Are you suggesting that the "mind's eye" has nothing to do with the brain?
