Its More than just a soft drink......I find it working especially when I have long drives, or Long nites and I dont want to get drunk. In Europe I usually buy at the gas stations , when I have a long drive ahead! :glugglug

Redbull has a hell of a lot more caffeine than a can of coke or a cup of coffee. If i remember correctly its about 2 1/2 cups of coffee not to mention the sugars and taurine. I usually stay up pretty late on the weekends doing work, hanging with friends etc. and find that on a Sat or Sun afternoon a redbull gets me going again. I personally think it tastes like liquid sweettarts. One of my friends that is 28 went into cardiac arrest (sp?) after drinking 6 of them in a 3 hour period. The doctors attributed the attack on the redbull, however, to have a heart attack that early in life points to problems down the road IMO.

It has *less* caffeine than coffee. Red Bull contains 286 mg/L of caffeine, while coffee contains 500-600 mg/L of caffeine.

The amount of sugar in a can comes down to about 5 teaspoons, which isn't really all that much.

Taurine is something that is found in many foods, and while it's a nutrient that may be essential, there is no clear evidence that consuming large amounts of it has any additional effect whatsoever. In fact, it's known that excess taurine is pissed out.

If a single can of Red Bull has any significant effect on you, I'm afraid chances are that that's the placebo effect at work.

As for your friend... I don't know what else he had that evening, but drinking 6 cups of coffee within a short period of time isn't a great idea with a bad heart anyway.

huh, so each can of redbull is about 2 cans of coke. as far as the placebo effect on me, i drink one cup of coffee per day and then switch to water or juice, when i drink it on the weekend i have already had my morning coffee so it is a boost that my system is not used to.

According to everything i have read there is evidence of tauring in meats, however, it is too new to get any accurate numbers on how much taurine is in foods. taurine affects the nervous system and the development of the brain. Redbull contains 1000mg of it which im sure is a significant amount.

Glucuronolactone is also known to give the body a natural energy boost. It was actually rumored that it was given to troops in high doses before they went into battle in vietnam. it also helps detoxify you body.

As far as my friend going into arrest he was mixing anywhere from 1-2 shots of vodka per can of redbull. He found out the hard way he has a weak heart.

I drink a can every morning.

and a few RedBulls and Vodka on the weekend to get me fired up to dance.

I can totally believe that. Caffeine is one addictive drug apart from whatever else that is in Red Bull. I am totally caffeine free and my body funtions a lot better. caffeine has way too many negative side effects. :2 cents:

kowntafit 08-03-2004 09:02 AM

Some people drink way too much of that shit. :2 cents:

SirSmokeALot 08-03-2004 09:06 AM
