If it's with people I don't know or casual acquaintances, I introduce myself and inquire about them instead of telling them what I'm all about.

Then I let them go off. If what they're talking about is interesting, I'll continue to inquire, which gives them a feeling of self-importance.

It's a great way to get to know people.

I'm a listener myself.. although I am prone to interrupting people that yammer on and on without a pause.

It all depends on who I'm talking to I guess.

I am soft spoken - so that makes me more of a listener than a talker. Unless I am talking to my s/o which makes me the talker and him a listener :o
