Fuck the Beatles, they were just a hippie version of today's Brit pop, they were never a rock band.

There can be only one: Metallica.

bonita16 09-06-2004 07:12 PM

Black Sabbath and the Ramones

The Beatles were definitely a rock and roll band.

Anyone who knows anything about them knows that the heart and soul of The Beatles was rock and roll!

Admittedly they were not as blues influenced as The Rolling Stones.

Yes, "Yellow Submarine" just makes you bang your hand like crazy. Dude, pull your head out of your ass, the Beatles, while highly influencial, were a POP band and nothing else.

You are obviously unfamiliar with their entire body of work.

Yeah, "A Day in the Life" was such a great pop song.

Theo 09-06-2004 07:48 PM

but love me do was a great rock song? :-)

shermo 09-06-2004 07:49 PM

This is impossible to pick. I have to say that the Doors are one of my fav bands. On the other hand I love the Beatles, The Sex Pistols, Led Zepplin and Jimmi Hendrix.

Too tough to call!

Just look around, and you will find why they put that song on LP. There is a reason for that (quick hint - it has something with Ringo Starr)...
If you look at four of them, you will see that only PM made POP career...
And one more thing... We are talking about music which was made almost 40 years ago...

You are missing the point, The Beatles, unlike say The Rolling Stones or Metallica didn't stick to one genre of music. They explored at one time or another, virtually every musical genre known... elements of country, classical, vaudville, psychedelic, Indian, motown and blues permeate their music.

But any real student of The Beatles knows that the greatest influence on them was 50's rockers like Buddy Holly and Chubby Checker.

Saying that the Beatles were a "pop group" is nothing more than gross ignorance.

Stones didnt stick to one genre either. They have rock, jazz, reggae, blues songs and so on. We can argue for decades since I'm fan of both :) I wouldn't call them pop myself too. I hear many people calling beatles like the first pop group, but as you said that limits them a lot. We gotta stick to rock n' roll title :)

True, except The Beatles stopped recording together in 1969. ;)

Theo 09-06-2004 08:40 PM

Yes,no doubt Beatles were the band that influenced the most many of the later groups, greatest band of all the time. I remember like yesterday when I was 5-6 year old having a small tape player with a single tape, the most valuable one, a beatles collection tape.

Living For Today 09-06-2004 08:48 PM

It's not hard.

Metallica are/were the best band ever.

Give me a break with this Metallica shit, they're best song doesnt come close to the Beatles worst. The fuckin Monkees would rate higher than Metallica.
