How can you guys say Tyson
tyson is not a bare knucke fighter,
even if Bruce Lee using only his hands would knock tyson out faster than he could blink.
Tyson is heavyeight figher, makes him very slow

Didnt any of you see the first UFC ??
boxer v martial artist

Most fights I've been in over my lifetime have been over in seconds. It's not like you can lay around in the guard for 20 minutes outside of a club waiting for that big choke.

yes there's something to this no doubt, being a good striker is a good way to get it over with quickly BUT it leaves you open to getting hit yourself. It's easier for someone to get lucky throwing punches than grappling. A really good grappler (someone better than me) won't take 20 minutes to exploit something on an untrained guy though, more like 20 seconds. They don't wait for you to fall into something, they PULL you into something.

It turns out, KF is just about worthless in a real fight.

ergo, Bruce Lee isn't that tough. There are thugs on this board that could kick his ass. Get a clue people.

He did not just learn KF, he was open to learning many different arts... If BJJ was available, I'm sure he'd learn that as well.

Hence in the MMA scene he is like the God father that started the revolution...

No, that would be Helio Gracie, the fighter. Bruce Lee was an actor.

I disagree, Bruce Lee was not just an actor. And BBJ came from Judo.. They just perfected/modified it.

Downtime 10-16-2004 12:26 AM

Bruce Lee easily. Although total respect for Tyson; but Bruce Lee would rape him.

VeriSexy 10-16-2004 12:43 AM

I think what it basically gets down to is this.

If Mike Tyson could hit BL, he's done for.

IF Tyson can't connect at all with BL, then Tyson's done for.

Mainly because I think both have the "power" to disable the other person within one punch/technique/whatever you want to call it.

I could be wrong.

That's exactly right. So it's a toss-up.

I've never seen a martial arts person in a street fight, so I don't even know if that stuff works all that well in reality.

BJJ came from the original jiu jitsu. Judo also came from the original jiu jitsu, and is the softcore version specifically developed for competing instead of real fighting.

how big of a ham sandwich are you talkin about ?

WebTitan 10-16-2004 06:38 AM

no question....first of all tyson could NEVER land a punch on him. he misses enough with other slow 220 pounders, he could never hit a target that moved with that kind of speed and agility. second, Lee has proven himself and dropped fighters in the past that were WAY tougher that Tyson could ever dream of being.

first off, Shamrock outweighs Royce by about 50 lbs. Or more. And Royce tapped his ass out in their first fight and Shamrock held on for dear life and fought for a draw in their second. And Shamrock is a real live world-class fighter in legitimate and proven fighting arts, as opposed to an actor who studies a useless system and never did more than get in a few backyard scraps.

Second, there are plenty of 'real' strikers in MMA, always have been. Art Jimmerson was in the first UFC. The reason boxers get their clocks cleaned is because they can't fight on the ground. Also, you don't need the punching power of Mike Tyson to be a good striker in MMA because they're basically using their bare hands, and you don't have to hit like Tyson to knock a man out with your naked fist.

Botha got fucked up in K-1, let alone trying to compete in UFC.

Here's what the UFC is, for those who've never heard of it. All styles allowed, mano a mano, and the last one standing is the cock of the walk. For the first three years, until everybody started learning BJJ, Royce Gracie - 170 lbs - tapped out everybody, all sizes, from all other martial arts. If they hadn't started using BJJ, he'd be doing it to this day.

All the Gracies did was fight anyone and everyone and never NEVER lose until people started fighting like the Gracies. You people who still think Nin-Jitsu, Pressure Point Fighting and Kung-Fu work are no better than flat-earthers.

The question isn't in debate, it's been settled for anyone paying attention. Ground Fighters beat stand-up fighters. EVERYBODY beats Kung Fu fighters. If you don't have submissions in your game, a submission fighter is going to whip your ass.

BJJ, Muay Thai, Sambo and Wrestling if you learn some BJJ submissions are about the only things that work in real life. He who has ears (and eyes and an internet connection and can read english) let him hear.

Everybody else go on waiting for Santy Claus to come down the chimney :1orglaugh

Whats all the hype with the Gracie's ?

Royce in his prime still would get owned by the Nog brothers, he only pulled of that many submissions because fighters back then had no clue on how to defend submissions.

Even Sak "The Gracie Hunter" took each one of them out!

On the streets then it would be a lot closer but with combat rules like those in K1 Bruce would not do as well as you think.

good answer

Jujutsu is the father art of Judo, Correct, but BJJ was based on a form of Judo. Anyways all I'm saying is it came from JAPAN. They just modified it.

In 1914 a Japanese Judo and jiu-jitsu master named Mitsuo Maeda (called Count Koma) came to Brazil. In return for help from the Brazilian politician Gastao Gracie, Koma taught jiu-jitsu to Gastao's son Carlos. Carlos in turn taught his brothers (most notably Helio). They went on to further refine the art via constant no-rules competition, developing what is now known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

At this point, the base of techniques in BJJ was similar to those in Kano's Judo academy in Japan. As the years progressed, however, the brothers (notably Carlos and Helio) and their students refined their art via brutal no-rules fights, both in public challenges and on the street. Particularly notable was their willingness to fight outside of weight categories, permitting a skilled small fighter to attempt to defeat a much larger opponent.
