It's impossible to generalise and down to the individual...
The only thing that is more than obvious - it hits ya within 24 hours of entering the US - is that there is a layer of what can only be described at utterly DUMB.
Of all the countries I've ever visited, the US has gotta be the dumbest. When you look at the bordering countries, Canada and Mexico, (for the benefit of those deficent in geography), this is not the case with either.
The reason is probably not actual stupidity, but the level of ignorance about anything outside their small world accompanied by what is clearly a problem in the education system and may be a "culture thing" as well, - or lack of one.
This was not always the case - US education, - at least in some named places, was excellent. These centers of education are now longer on the map of ratings, having been replaced by universities/colleges in other countries.
On the other hand, fortunately there are many very bright people in the US with a broader outlook on life - usually folks who got out of the state they were born in and realized there is an actual world outside the US.
