Problem is how is one supposed to distinguish between racist comments and harmless jokes? Psychic knowledge? If you say "We should just nuke all ragheads" - how the fuck am I supposed to know it's a harmless joke by someone I don't know rather than some bigoted comment by a fucking moron?

People have been making horrendous comments, then backing them up by saying "Oh, it's just jokes." or my favorite "It's how I cope with my anger." They end up looking like a bunch of assholes to those that don't personally know them. Granted, they probably don't care either.

Anyhow, doesn't really matter. I remain convinced there's a number of racist fucks on this board, but that's basically the case anywhere in this world. The shit my 85 year old grandparents say shocks the hell out of me sometimes.

After reading through many of the posts on this subject, I am sickened by many of the responses. The terrible incident at the WTC is not nor should it ever become a justified reason for promoting racism.

When Timothy McVie bombed Oklamhoma City, did you all post on the board that all white anglosaxons be rounded up and shot or otherwise eliminated. I'm guessing probably not. This is no different.

The type of racist thought patterns many of you are demonstrating are exactly the thought patterns which the terrorist groups use to justify destroying "the evil American". There is no distinction in the terrorists eyes between the actions of the US gov't and the U.S on a whole.

Yes, the terrorist organisations responsible should be "put out of business". But it has to stop there. A faction of a race does not define the ideals of the entire race.

We are all angry about this tragedy, but please let intelligence and not pure emotion run our lives.

All of us white people look similar..Irish, Scottish, English, German, ... so we must all harbour the same beliefs as Hitler. This is the only line of reasoning that could possibly justify all people of certain linage being punished for the actions of the terrorists.

And yes, the news reels did show Afghanistans cheering in the streets. Deja Vue perhaps..I seem to remember a similar response from Americans when parts of Iraq were blown apart by our mighty military.

Common now dew, everyone has different ways of processing and dealing and coping with stressful situations, and for many Americans this is about THE most stressful thing that could ever occur. If a few people want to vent a little on this board, I say let them. If you don't like what they post and are as you say "sickened" by it, then simply choose not to read this thread, that's your right. It is also their right to find ways of venting, and it is most unfair of you or anyone to sit in judgement and assume the moral ground, especially when the enemy we now all face is one that is more elusive and dangerous than any in history. It is and will be very frustrating times for some people to find solace in getting some justice served, so a little latitude is called for.

This is part of this discussion. There are those of you who choose to spout racism and this would be the counter opinion. This is not "pissing" on your discussion. I am sure that if I would start my own thread, then the same members of this thread would then post their counter opinions to my post.

Again, regardless of the depth of this incident, hate aimed at another race is NEVER acceptable.

Okay, I know for a fact that this exact point of yours has been dealt with to death on this and other threads over and over. The fact that you are again bringing it up tells me that, although you say you've read over the entire thread, I think maybe you missed some of the proverbial boat.

Where you see racism, I see hatred of a specific faction of one race. I do value your words in the regard that they may serve to temper the severity here, but I don't begrudge anyone using the term "arab" in the context they are using it. Again, the general consensus here is that all or most of the terrorists we've all come to know and hate are of Arabic descent, thus people are using the term for convenience sake. Since a lot of "Arabs" tend to wear some form of towelage upon their brows, the term "towel-head" or "rag-head" comes into play, again pertaining to the enemy, NOT innocent civilians.

I'll ask again, can you bring yourself down out of the clouds and offer some leeway for otherwise powerless people to vent some anger in their own way? Hey, I too draw the line at anyone saying things like "I'll kill the next Arab that walks by me" or anything. That is just plain wrong-thinking. Anyone that grabs a cabbie and beats the shit out of him just for looking like an Arab is just plain wrong. But talking about the ENEMY of the USA in this fashion is tolerable in my book.
