Very nice Kevin - CONGRATS!!
3 things : TOP: Now you too can look like Tony Soprano or your favorite celebrity by wearing the authentic clothing they have worn in your favorite movies. MIDDLE: Everyone has stories from their past that are outrageous and down BOTTOM: and point you in the right direction. Whether your girlfriend left you for another woman, or you're wondering when the right time |

Look Like a Celebrity
Now you to can look like Tony Soprano Why would I want to be fat and bald? |
No offense...but even though you said it's no totally done yet...I see a multi-million dollar domain with a $2000 website.
It sounds like you are using multiple scripts to do everything. Like for instance, the voting script.....it looks pretty poor to me, should your coder have coded it better from the beginning? or did he just get a script off of hotscripts.com? i really didn't find anything on this site that would make me want to come back. i expected a user registration part that opened up tons of new features for "men"...along with forums and whatnot. but i see nothing. Hopefully things shape up in the future. |
I am guessing this is a pre-beta launch? The navigation is lacking... needs a lot of work.
I am sure it will improve. :) |
it'll be a lot better. it's best just to get it up soon as possible and make $ off the traffic early on.

Well said. I agree. Ad farm filled with crap. There's a real lack of vision for such a great name. And if you take that as hating Kevin, you're doing yourself a disservice. Good luck on the launch--hope the site improves. :2 cents: |
What SicChild and DomBuyer said. :2 cents:

ok can I make a suggestion?
Put a page up with an emailbox saying somthing like "men.com is in betatest now, please enter your emailadress so we can keep you informed of the new, unique features men.com is offering. You will also be given access to the beta pages instantly" Maybe put a link underneeth to acces the site without entering the emailadress, atleast they know it isn't fully finished yet and there is more to come. Once they sumbitted their emailadress you give them a cookie and next time they automatically go to the "beta"-site. Why I hear? Because I honestly believe you are loosing valuable type in traffic. I don't think many of the typeins you are getting now are going to bookmark the site or even come back later ("let's see what can I type? men.com maybe? oh no that was that bannerfarm, lets try google...") |
Right on!!!!!

I dont know what I would do with that domain. Im sure hes making a fortune with it no matter what he puts on it.

Agree with some of the others.
The site is a little busy there - lots of different attention draws for the eyes so you're likely to get lost and distracted on the front page. Perhaps some clearer definition, less banner advertising, and more text/content would work. Personally I'd remove the banner from the very top of the page, you would want to put your header there, perhaps even a little flash intro would be nice detailing all the wonderful things MEN can get to do at men.com - this would then represent your goals with the site rather than having to put EVERYTHING in little boxed compartments on the front page making it too busy. I also think you're missing an excellent opportunity (as stated by someone else earlier) to grab email addresses of potential traffic. You could begin building a database of interested parties, and I would also suggest you set yourself up with a members section. Free to join-up and perhaps offering some exclusive discounts or promos or something like that (I bet you could find sponsors for some prizes/incentives to offer - hell, I know we'd sure give you some stuff to put there, especially considering the kind of coverage you will be able to provide for advertisers/sponsors) Damn, you must be excited for a domain like men.com - but seriously, in my opinion you're taking the short-term view of 'lets make money selling things from this site' where I think you'd be best building lots of solid content and a reason to return for your traffic and then you can just charge like GFY for advertising and the money will come rolling in cos you'll be retaining the traffic numbers by providing quality content in an easy to navigate framework. :2 cents: There are SO many possibilities for you with this site - members, chat, forum, dating, health, relationships, money, business, gaming, entertainment - you name it you can represent it on your site! Hell, I wish I could be part of this exciting project! and I wish you all the best!! :thumbsup |
Looks really good!:thumbsup

It takes time. It takes testing different things. I'm in no rush. Its a long term investment. I've made a lot of income off it already. The domain value itself is worth way above what we paid. Its all paid for so its a multi-million dollar asset on the books. If you read the thread I said there is still a lot the guys haven't finished yet and more in development. We've gone through a couple different design teams. When its all said and done it will be pristine and gushing cash like an oil well. And that's the bottom line. |

You guys make it sound like you snap your fingers and overnight you have Playboy Magazine. It doesn't work that way. It takes time to build. Just interviewing writers was a time consuming royal pain in the ass. I'm not even crazy about some of the ones we ended up hiring but it got to the point where you just say lets go with what we've hired for now and tweak as we go along. All I care about is that it makes money and its doing that now. |
needs more work to become better then askmen, also I'm not crazy about the design/layout...
I'm sure we'll see major changes in upcoming months |
