It definitely was unjustified. A few of the guardsmen themselves who partook of the shooting appeared mortified on camera in the documentary I watched a few years ago, and if they were expressing honest feelings (which I think they were) they have had to live with their guilt all these years.

It was shameful, needless, and in viewing the footage of it I was outraged beyond words, as anyone should be.

Yet another huge shame on the particular administration of that period in time.

Very transparent response...but then again you are very transparent...aren't you Richy boy?

I do not take orders from you...Richy boy...but I will voluntarily answer the questions.

I do not give a flying fuck who reads or who doesn't read my posts...including you Richy boy. I do not give a flying fuck if anyone takes me seriously or does not take me seriously...including you Richy boy. I do not care who puts me on ignore...including you Richy boy.

Hmm...now how about answering the question that you failed to answer...Richy boy?

Yes...it was a shameful spectacle. I assume that you are referring to that particular State Administration...since it was the Governor that called out his State National Guard and not the Federal Administration.

Oh, it was a black mark on Nixon's administration as well. You must remember that as well as I do.

After such a tragic incident is "allowed" to happen, the people tend to look at the leadership, and the president is the largest target of such outrage. It is in how he handles the situation that determines the size of said black mark, and if memory serves I would say that the one Nixon got that day and in the weeks and months following was quite sizeable.

YOu are a doodoo face.

CDSmith 05-04-2005 04:56 PM

From what I remember of it, there were investigations following the incident, after which not one of the guardsmen were ever punished formally. I will have to read up on this further to confirm that though.... it's a little fuzzy.

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Well...whatever goes down wrong in the Nation...the responsibilty...rightfully or wrongfully...is often layed upon the holder of the office of the Presidency.

I don't know who ordered the National Guard to have live rounds in their weapons...or what their reasoning was. Ordinarily riot control is performed by the National Gaurd with fixed bayonets and zero live rounds. I doubt that the Governor did...and if it was the CG or what ever ranking Officer or NCO that issued the order for live rounds...their head should have rolled...providing that they did not offer a very sound reason for the use of live rounds.

Anyone have any info about this.

All these bullshit arguing posts over a Prize winning photo of a runaway teen screaming over a dead body? What the few National Guardsmen did was a travesty at Kent State. I believe it will never happen again. And I wish the people of this country would stand up in mass as the students did during the Viet Nam era and scream at the politicians who are fucking all of us over on a daily basis. They litterallly shut down Washington D.C. one day back then! Disabled cars in the roadways. Blocked traffic with other vehicles. It was fucking great! I recall seeing on the box someone opening the engine cover of a VW Bug belonging to a politician and pulling the distributor wires out.

The whole story isn't told here. Look it up on google and get both sides of the story before making any judgements. The guys pulling the triggers were just doing what they were paid $134 per month to do for the state part time but the story is much deeper. There was a long standoff (3 days I think) and a couple of them deserved to get shot for the shit they were pulling and a few innocents got shot in the process. The two that deserved to get shot burned down some buildings and incited riots so they weren't innocent !

I was there so I know a little about it.

I'm sure the king has never heard of Neil Young otherwise he would be calling him anti american and calling for him to be deported, especially after these words:

I saw cotton
and I saw black
Tall white mansions
and little shacks.
Southern man
when will you
pay them back?
I heard screamin'
and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

The army and police don't protect the people, they protect the bankers and politicians from the people. This was the national guard gunning down unarmed college kids who opposed the war in Vietnam in cold blood, for those who don't know.

its so funny to see the distorted, idiot views of foriegners about America.
