money in mailings...who would have guessed ;) |
three years later and i wonder if any of this is still true???

Funny.. I just started getting into mailers lately and it all seems true.
Opt-in lists are "fun"... |

The guys that are making big money from mailing are not doing it on the up and up. They are supporting the very scumbags whom hack and install trojans on our sites. When you see guys asking for proxies or selling proxies, well that's what they are selling, IP's of infected PC's. Reguardless if the lists are legit, 9 times out of 10 they are still proxie mailing, which is illegal. |
I don't use proxies... I just collect peoples email on my sites and then email them shit like reviews and blog posts. All legit. Free and easy money.

Spam is gr8. Nothing like going from $0/wk to $400/wk in 2 weeks or so. Conversions looking like 1:25...Spending 20mins of my day then coming back with $100+. All the bills paid without ever having to clock in or listen to anyone...damn those were the good old days
|
There is a very thin line between compilant or non-compilant mailing, especially if people don't collect these mails themselves. Often mailers have to cross the line partially, since spam filters often don't care if a mailing is legit or not, etc.
There is a reason why it is so damn profitable: Even if you try to abide by the law, it's still risky business. |
A mailer that can send 100 sales a day isn't a big webmaster. The sales won't stay, the complaints are high, the trail to converts are the worst in the business.
I figured programs supported them because it was so easy to become a mailer rather than a Webmaster with real skill. So a program could easily get 5 mailers doing 100 sales a day - but they only had 1 whale doing 500 sales a day. Greed is the drive I guess.. |

anyway man. again, if you send legit emails and make some cash, more power to you. i just have issues with "spammers", so for my asshole posts in this thread, i apologize if you don't fit the bill, though I suspect others might :) |

The reality is...
There are CAN-SPAM compliant mailers and then are spammers. The two are very very different. In the mainstream, compliant mailing is considered very normal and very profitable. This is one reason list management and companies that handle list management have been increasing in recent years. Mail has gotten such a bad rap on the adult side (as it should), as the majority of ?mailers? are really ?spammers?. -=Chipmunk=- |
