I ended up with the Pug. Oh, and a Chiuauha/MinPin mix.

Where I live, it's not all that hot for much of the year. We have A/C, so she managed. She's only snores when she sleeps, which is something she doesn't do all that much.

My girlfriend loves Pitbulls and has been pushing to get one as of late. I am considering it, but only if it's a pup.

We owned a staffy x pit when we were living in Africa. I can only think of three occasions that she ever bit. First, she bit a drunk person that walked into our yard, ignoring the many large signs saying do not enter and beware of the dog, etc. She mauled a dog that dug in underneath our fence. She hated other dogs as she was mauled by a doberman when she was just a few weeks old. And once she grabbed a goat by the horns when it wandered onto a golf course.

A friend of mine here in Australia owns a purebred staffy. In the 11 years I've been around this dog, I've only ever heard it growl once and that was when a friend tried to sneak into his place to try and frighten us when we were watching tv, and even then it was only for a second before he realized who the intruder was.

Let me ask you something, if you owned a dog which you knew was absolutely awesome. Wouldn't hurt a flea. Never once showed any dog or human aggression, never once was anything but the best dog you've ever owned. Gave no reason at all for anyone to say bad things about him.

On top of that, you yourself were exteremy well educated on the breed of dog you own. Know the facts on and how to raise the breed. Knew tons of others with awesome dogs of that same breed. ATTACK: Family dog reportedly assaulted 2-year-old

Lockport police are investigating an apparent attack by a pit bull on a small boy.

The 2-year-old is recovering at Women and Children?s Hospital of Buffalo after police say he was attacked and sexually assaulted by his family?s pit bull.

Police said the toddler was in his home on Washburn Street about 2 p.m. Sunday when the pill bull attacked. According to police, the dog sodomized the boy.

?The dog sexually attacked the kid and caused some pretty significant injuries,? said Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert.

Eggert said the boy?s family members, who were reportedly home at the time, and neighbors had to beat the dog to get him off the boy.

The dog has been impounded at the Niagara County SPCA in Wheatfield as the investigation continues. Eggert said a veterinarian will be brought in to take DNA samples from the dog.

?(The vet will) compare DNA taken from the boy to kind of verify it happened,? Eggert said.

Eggert said everyone involved in the case was shocked by the bizarre happenings.

?I have never, ever heard of an assault quite like that,? Eggert said.

Niagara County SPCA Executive Director Al Chille said this case is an unusual one.

?I have had reports of adults having (sexual) relationships with animals, but not anything like that,? he said. ?The majority of the calls we receive with regards to pit bulls are bite calls, not calls of this nature. We get a considerably large number of those (bite calls) from all over the county.?

dogs act upon two things, what they have learned while growing up, and Basic Natural instinct. They dont have the intelligence level humans do, they cannot reason, or even think on the same level humans do.

The breed has a naturally aggresive nature, but if they have the right caring owner, it shouldn't be a problem. So yes, it's mainly the owners fault.

Most large breeds were designed to kill for either hunting or protection. There are so many factors as to why this bred gets a bad rap and there are these terrible tragedies but 90% of the reasons led back to people.

It's the same argument as gun control.

I got a bunch of friends with Pitbulls.

The ones that trained them from a young age to NOT be aggressive have never had a problem.

My other friends who didn't do anything to train the dog.. Their pitbull is trouble..

I don't find the dog is evil and wants to cause pain..

They are just extremely strong, aggressive and playful..

It's a dog.. it doesn't fucking know what it's doing unless you train it..

I've had more trouble with Chihuahuas than pitbulls..

But I do believe the owner and trainers do play a roll..

The thing with pitbulls is.. They can be completely calm and well trained and then 10 years later out of nowhere they freak out and kill a baby..

People used to say the same thing about German Shepherds, Doberman's, Rottie's, and most of the bigger breeds. Frankly I listen to the vet's. They do not believe that the bigger dogs are born evil or that they have bad DNA. They are trained for years to work with animals. I have a chocolate Lab that I take to play with his dog buddies in the trails every day. One of those dogs is a pit bull. He's also a rescue, so that should make the situation more nerve-wracking. But, the only dog that's ever attacked mine is a golden Retriever.

They're supposed to be sweethearts, right? Well, I trust his Pit Bull buddy more than that golden, and we try to avoid him every time we see him and his dumbass owner.

I would rather be attacked by 2 golden retrievers than 1 pitbull :2 cents:

Have to agree here. I have a rescue dog half lab half rot. Sweet as can be, always played nice until our other dog defied the pack hierarchy. She almost killed my other dog. Often the pack hierarchy can get confused through non-verbal q's we humans don't pick up on.

With dogs that are designed to be more aggressive, letting them know their place through proper training is VERY important. So if you don't know how to properly train a dog, through humane negative re-enforcement, don't get one of the more deadly varieties. Get a dachshund...or a golden...esp if you live in a small space like an apartment. :2 cents:
