from what i understand.... our original apache set up on our personal servers allows pl files to be readable..something that our guys should have caught and fixed.. but didn't... this is not a software wide issue ... as much as it is a server security issue... and we are now currently working on correcting it...

as Fris mentioned every system has its weaknesses.. and they will all be found at some point.. unfortunately ours happened to be tonight...

lastly.. as for our ESclients... I do not know how our clients build their webservers. in most cases we do not have access to the client's web servers. If their severs are secured properly... (unlike ours.. as we found out) they should not have similar issues....

I'll post more info as I find out more... thank you to those who are supporting us and who took the time to contact us... :upsidedow

I don't think I've ever seen a more professional response, given the situation. :thumbsup

When it comes to all those unencrypted text files... Man.. Whoever designed that needs to have their head examined...

BAD!!!! - /home/domain.com/htdocs/admin/../../../../text files.

GOOD - /home/essecured/admin/../../../../text files.

You NEVER put files in a path that "could" be accessable for exactly this reason...

Sorry to see this happen :(

Unfortunately, this is the nature of the software business. We've had our problems in the past also as have many many (if not all) software packages. It's simply how the software business is.

Glad to see it was easily fixable for the ES guys.

Not just building tours. I build the whole fucking thing so I am speaking with experience when it comes to support issues, contact and customizations.

Just two cents, ALL SCRIPTS ARE VULNERABLE TO HAX.
Parlor tricks...

There are many reasons not to like competing scripts.

Nats was funded in a bad way. Tis true, ask around and when ya get the dirt ya would be shocked.
MPA. Nuff said of the bad press over the years though it is good and definatly better than NATS.
RiverStyx. Its just old.

Anyways nice drama

Tadow!

Profound statement! AlienQ is your man for all your adult internet needs :upsidedow

BradShaw 06-21-2005 10:37 PM

Shit happens. It is inexcusable for our server not to be secured properly. This has nothing to do with ES, it has to do with our personal server set up and it not being done correctly by our former server admin. As most of you know, I do not even know HTML, so do not blame me;-) It is a server admin issue, not an ES issue.

With that said, every script, software, etc has holes. Be it NATS, MPA, ES, etc...

newbreed 06-21-2005 10:39 PM

Can I hold the video camera when these two meet?

Not trying to start shit here, but we do take the high road. I can only think of one thing where we haven't "taken the high road" which you might be referring to (and I don't want to bring up in this thread). However, that was NOT a mistake on a competitors part, it was a direct, and in my opinion, completely wrong and immoral thing to do. There's a big difference between that and a mistake.

You should be proactive with security not reactive.

The first thing I did when we got nats installed is hire a top rep security guy to go over everything with a toothcomb. Sure it costs money, and some people don't like to spend money, but its gotta be done.

I hear good things about executivestats and what it does, but for the price they are charging you would think that they could have spared $10k for a decent 3rd party security audit before releasing it.
