Curious to see who else I haven't thought of yet-

not bad except you're missing Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. I personally wouldn't put Traffic, Kinks or Moody Blues on there...

CDSmith 07-10-2005 02:09 PM

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Grateful Dead
Crosby, Stills & Nash (Young = Canadian)

Aren't Hall & Oates USA?

And they rock. :D

BBW is an understatement!
"I saw them a few years back and she looks like she is pushing 300 lbs-

What a shame - they were so hot back in 77-78 when I was a kid, I used to drool over them.

It was even more depressing seeing Stevie Nicks a few years back though-
I was in the front row and approached her during Rhiannon"
and gave her a rose-

She was so touched- she invited me backstage
:-))

I still have great memories of all the Summers I spent back in Cleveland at the Blossom Music Center
One of my closest friends ran it, and I had tix for every show and backstage passes.

I saw and hung out with some unreal people- I culd write a book
:-))

Long and short of it-
Both Heart and Stevie ROCK
and all of the chicks are now sober-

It's almost like after they stopped doing cocaine they immediately BLOW UP.

I just saw Stephen Percy of RATT down here and I almost fainted-
He was introduced to me at a bar up the street and he looks like a fat landscaper-

add the Police and Radiohead to that list.

DOH!

I was looking at pollstar numbers from an old magazine a coupe of weeks ago that's why that stayed fresh

I AM AN IDIOT for not mentioning Sabbath and Zeppelin
excellent point

I was thinking about honorable mentions : like
a few of my favorites-
Squeeze, New Order, and the Cure as well-

they sold MILLIONS of albums

Evil Doer 07-10-2005 02:13 PM

50........

Tala 07-10-2005 02:16 PM

w00t! 51 non-woj catches!

TheGoldenChild 07-10-2005 02:16 PM

Definitley have to add the Police
although not really a "British" band

Yes they were conceived in England-
But Stewart Copeland isn't a Brit per se

They really hit it BIG when the States embraced them back in 78-79

I LOVE THE POLICE

One of my biggest influences in rock-
"Message In A Bottle"
Is my favorite song of all time
and one I riff on my guitar al the time
:-))

what about the Spice Girls?

Not music-related but speaking of major weight changes, this reminded me:
Has anyone seen Peter Jackson lately?

Damn right they are and I was wondering that too..they are a band and are the most sucessful duo of all time and great song writers but they don't seem to fit the tone of that list. Plus I still say Fleetwood Mac are just as British as American and therefore shouldn't be on an American band list.

Well by that logic we can take GnR off that list because Slash was born and currently lives in England. Yes, that right - Slash is British...Stoke On Trent to be exact.

OK, I'll throw The Sex Pistols in for a UK list.
For all intents and purposes the Beatles should be on the US list. The members may have been from the UK but their success was as a US act:upsidedow

RRACY 07-10-2005 03:42 PM

I really have no comment on this list but i do like pearl jam and Metallica. :1orglaugh

Trafficbrokercom 07-10-2005 03:45 PM

Queensryche on the 8th spot is amazing ..

Watch out for Operation Mindcrime #2 to be released in 2006 ..

ThumbLord 07-10-2005 04:05 PM

Frank Zappa (and/or) the Mothers of Invention is missing !

Matt 26z 07-10-2005 04:08 PM

How can they not have Elvis on there?

They also left off the Smashing Pumpkins.

and I will add The Clash and The Buzzcocks.

Drake 07-10-2005 06:09 PM

They left out some good bands...

What about:
Alice In Chains
Tool
Hendrix
Elvis
Credence Clearwater Revival
Smashing Pumpkins

I understanding with the reasoning for Pearl Jam at #1. Timeless, original, soulful, influential classics album after album.

Quote:

Their records sell ... "... because they're good, not because they've been hyped to death by the media," McNabb added.
To put it in perspective, Pearl Jam's debut album Ten sold 10 million albums, more than 3 times what Nirvana's Nevermind did. About half the songs on the album are standards today.

Quote:

There have been scores of imitators. "How many Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder knockoffs have invaded rock radio since Ten?" asked Scott Jordan, another Atlanta fan.
No band sounded like Pearl Jam before Pearl Jam. So many did after them. Their influence is crystal clear.

videoxpix 07-10-2005 06:56 PM

Other great AMERICAN R&R bands not on the list.

Not saying that they are all top 20, but a few would be on my list.

1. Talking Heads
2. Phish
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. Jane's Addiction
5. Widespread Panic
6. SUBLIME
7. Lou Reed/Velvet Uderground
8. Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble
9. Blues Traveler
10. Beastie Boys

candyflip 07-10-2005 06:58 PM

KISS has more gold records than anyone else on that list.
