I've been saying this for years.

I got a new phone last year and it has the GPS thing. So they monitor me through my phone, if its not through the phone it'll be some other way. Theres really no escaping.

England 10-26-2005 01:01 AM

It all started when 3000 people died. Not really a significant number, seening as it probably didnt make any wave on the avrage number of people dying pr. day worldwide.

The American people should considder this: do you want to be free or do you want to avoid having ANY people killed in your country? If the government wants to, they can control everything, stop everything, but they need your cooperation.

exactly!

Haha only in the USA... Christ...
It used to be a great country, but that sure as hell is going downhill faaaaast.

Taboo 10-26-2005 02:22 AM

I'm all for it! :thumbsup

I can finally launch the features we've been keeping under wraps for my mainstream ventures! (Location-Based Marketing... here we come)

plus, the GPS/e911 comes in handy for emergencies. At least now when you call 911, it'll contact the local emergency service#, not where you are based... very useful.

and most of us are being tracked already with GPS in-car... so no big deal.

:)

Or can someone point out where I'm wrong? It's been awhile since I read the constitution.

You've got it round the wrong way!:) The Constitution doesn't give the Government the right to track your every move!

Although the Constitution doesn't explicitly refer to a right to privacy there have been numerous civil cases that have been brought to the Supreme Court that have interpreted the Constitution to implicitly provide a right to privacy.

What do you mean? Don't all foreign terrorists buy and activate an US cellcontract on a GPS phone when they come to the us to commit atrocities?

Seriously, though. If someone has link to the newssource, please do post it. Things are getting outta hand in the US as far as privacy goes, eh?
If this isn't bogus news, that's pretty screwed up...and whoever said 'it's only in the phones not on US'...well, if this law comes into effect, give it a couple of years and you'll get a nice little tracking device implanted when you're born.

Mmmm.. it gets worse.

OK folks... It's time to escape from "freedom"! Last person out please remember to switch out the lights!

PS.. Na.. Leave em on - Homeland Security gets frightened in the dark.

Ok, maybe I am totally stupid, but how does a GPS enabled phone, or a GPS system in a car, TRACK you!? GPS does not SEND out signals, it RECEIVES them. Its not like a GPS enabled phone constantly sends out GPS location data to the network. It might have features where the network requests its location somehow, but even that I doubt since the network has no use for the information.

Yea.. and they pay for the phones and open accounts by credit card.

Sheesh.. bin Laden must be on the floor rolling with laughter.

On the presumption that it's true (yet to see anything to prove that although it sounds more than plausible) this Potter idiot and those like him are the reason all this crap gets through. It's only one part of a huge string of civil liberty and privacy crap pulled by the government because of terrorism'. Sadly though there are a lot of people like Potter i.e. without the intelligence or ability to see the bigger picture.

There's a fairly famous quote around somewhere about a guy who ignores the gradual erosions of freedom until there's only him left so then it's him they target. Wish I could remember it as it puts the whole thing into perspective. It ends something like 'then they came for me'.

Linkster 10-26-2005 03:15 AM

http://www.janrainwater.com/htdocs/Rohde.htm - for that quote about they came for me

Real simple answer to the entire problem - Get The Fuck Rid of your Cell Phone if you dont like it - its not like its something required and for a few thousand years we've been able to live without them - they are a waste of money and are a total waste of time for all of the kids that use them in school now

Blame me all you want. Attacking me on a forum instead of doing something about the problem make it easier for you to sleep at night? I bet your the poster child for all the organizations trying to stop all these new laws huh? Let me bow down in your presence.

Can you post articles to the cases with the same type of "privacy issues" like that of putting gps on a cell?

the Shemp 10-26-2005 03:28 AM

That was me, and I hope you're joking. If anyone thinks that the government putting gps into cell phones will turn into implants into newborns in a couple of years. TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER NOW AND GET OUT OF THE HOUSE MORE OFTEN :thumbsup :1orglaugh

Thanks close - but it did have the name of the guy who made the original quote which I think is better :)

First they came for the Communists,
and I didn?t speak up,
because I wasn?t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn?t speak up,
because I wasn?t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn?t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

Sums it up perfectly. Of course it does take just a little intelligence to apply that to different situations (although not much) and several idiots have proven they probably don't have enough to manage it. For the rest though I've always thought it a great quote.

Tipsy 10-26-2005 04:42 AM

It still looks a tad bogus though despite all the other crap the government has pulled with similar issues. The only people who seem aware of it are 'ebayers' and there's every possibility they have a vested interest in seeing the phone activated ASAP so will come up with any old BS to achieve it.

slapass 10-26-2005 04:45 AM

Just a heads up but they can locate you from your cell phone now.
