heres my story
I dont know if this contest is still going but here's my xbox sob story anyways:
I was all ready on Nov 21nd to camp out becuase I didnt preorder, I planned that shit for weeks, planning out my routes on where to go. I called every single retailer in las vegas: bestbuy, circuit city, frys, walmart, targets, fye's. I even called those small little mom and pop video stores. I did a ton of research, asking which stores had how many, etc. so as to figure out which would be my best place to go, and where would be a good backup. Since we have 24 hour walmarts here in vegas and they start selling the x360 at 12AM, I planned on walmart first, then if they sold out I would go to best buy and wait in the cold.
I had a test in my number theory class that day, so I figured I would head down to walmart right after. All fucking day thats all I thought about, getting an xbox. During my test, I couldnt even concentrate on the questions. The test had like 5 total questions, I left 2 of them blank becuase they demanded too much time thinking and I wanted to hurry up and get in line at walmart. So I get out of class at around 7PM and head down to walmart. I figured 5 hours early would be plenty of time, I could eat something at the mcdonalds there while I am in line. I get there and the line for the xbox was fucking huge. They had these numbered chairs for how many units they had, and after that there were no more. There was like 50 chairs there, and after the 50th chair people just stood there, waiting like they were going to still get one even though the walmart employees were telling them to just leave cuz they wont get one.
I decided fuck it and left to get something to eat with friends. I met them at the restaurant and when they got there they told me that people were already forming a line a best buy. So I was like oh fuck, I ate hella fast and paid for dinner and left to go to best buy. The research I did on joystiq.com said that the best buy I was at was getting 20 core and 40 premium units. So I get there and there was already a number of people in line outside the store, 12 hours before the store opened. I got in line and counted 30 something people ahead of me. I was fucking stoked cuz I wanted the premium system and I was in line to get one.
If anyone here lives in vegas, they know how cold the winters are at night. It was fucking freezing, and I was not wearing a whole lot of clothes, nor did I have a chair. So I was sitting on the fucking ground freezing my ass off for the whole night. My friend was there with me but left at 1AM becuase he had a doctors appointment the next day. Things were going ok the whole night, I was toughing it out, thinking about playing madden. Then all of a sudden people start coming in and getting ahead of me. Apparently a bunch of the cock suckers ahead of me had friends that they said were originally in line before we got there. And of course the people in the front of the line could care less becuase they know they are going to get one, they just agreed with it, and since there was no security or anyone there to enforce anything, nobody did anything about it. It happened like 3-4 times during that night. And by around 2AM or so, I went from number 30 something to number 40 something. Even this middle aged guy had his wife drop off his 6 year old daughter to come in line with him so that she can buy her own. And you knew she was just there so he could sell the other one. I wasnt trippin too hard cuz I was still going to get a core system at least. I could get the HD and the other shit later anyways.
So then at around 4AM the best buy employees arrive and have some type of secret meeting in the parking lot. The manager goes up to the line and sees like the first 5 people in line are best buy employees, they werent even supposed to be able to buy a system. But the manager was a bitch and let them stay in line. Anyways, the managers and employees go inside for like 2 hours and come out to hand out tickets and these blue flyers. The blue flyers had these bundled deals with extra controllers and chargers and shit. While they gave out the tickets they told people that you cant just buy the system itself, you have to buy a fucking bundle, and like the cheapest one was 600 bucks, you had to buy gay ass faceplates and fancy dvd remotes that you dont even need. One of the bundles was for a core system and it had the wireless charger, but the core system has the wired controler. People in line were guessing that the manager had the employees print those flyers when they got there so that they can increase sales. It wasnt really about the money, I was going to get one anyways, since i stood in line for it for 12 hours. It was the principle of it, since their ad does not mention any type of package deal you HAD to buy in order to get a system.
Luckily the local news station FOX 5 news was there and we showed her the flyers and the ad, she spoke to the manager and scared her into letting people buy just the system, but if the FOX 5 news lady wasnt there, they would have made us buy those gay bundles. Anyways, I was lucky to get a ticket, even though it was for a core system. I went in and got the system. I went home and slept for like 8 hours.
When I woke up I opened it all up and plugged it in. I put in madden and started up a game. Right after I picked my team and was about to kickoff, the fucking thing froze on me. I called microsoft and they told me that it was a heating failure, so I put a fan right next to the power supply to cool it off even more. But it still fucking freezes every 7-8 minutes, its so fucking annoying. The chick at microsoft I was talking to said I could send it in and they can repair it, but they said they were so backed up she didnt even know when I could get it back. So I took it back to best buy and of course they are all out of them so I couldnt even exchange it until more come in. So I called them the other day, and they said they are getting a shipment in on the 18th, the last shipment for this year. I asked if I can get on a list or something becuase mine is broken, they said no. They told me that I better get thier early and that people are going to be camping out again just for the second shipment, and they are getting only like 20. My fucking graduation ceremony is the next day, so I dont even know if I can camp out that night to get a replacement.
The worst part is that I ended up with a D on my number theory test for fucking nothing. Now I have to study my ass off to pass the final on wednesday in order to graduate this semester. I want to play madden bad, but Im not paying no fucking $800 bones for a $400 system.
PS: I dont think I will ever shop at best buy again. Also buy the extended warranty on the xbox if your retailer offers one, microsoft only puts 90 days on the xbox and knowing MS, your shit will break on the 91st day.
