I agree. Men.com could be big making big $$$.

Doctor Dre 01-22-2006 03:40 AM

All you guys can hate, but the new design and articles KRL posted definitly are a lot more work then the average medium tgp puts in his site...

Center the page and it looks aiight, and it's simple to navigat.e

I never said simple wasnt good!

Ebay, google blah blah, they are all simple, but the design is also CLEAN, NICE and professional!...Man if you cant see my point by looking at men.com right now then I just dont know what to say...the colors arent nice, the design itself doesnt look eighter clean, nor good...

TheDoc 01-22-2006 02:05 PM

The site has a crap header and a bad choice of header colors. The rest of the site is a bit messy, but it isn't so bad, still easy to work with.

The design / colors of the site will effect how many people return and bookmark the site. Simple, clean, professional, looking layouts often relate to ease of use, safety, and a secure place to be online and shop at.

For a product like men.com to be in black & blue, a nasty menu at the top, with a messy layout is a bad choice for marketing and building trust with your visitors. It?s not a porn site, it isn?t a bondage site, it?s not a personal home page. It should look professional, it doesn?t have to graphic heavy, it just shouldn?t look like the design cost them $10.

This is mainstream they are talking about..sites with a lot of reading...they were saying that people would take X amount of seconds to look at the site and what kept the around was DESIGN

I'm guessing a decent amount of the type in trafic is from gay guys. Seriously how many straight men would ever type in men.com out of curiosity looking for a Maxim style site? I know I wouldn't. It's a gay domain.

Brujah 01-22-2006 03:46 PM

The new design looks much better. The old design looked cheap, and made me want to move on to the next. It left me with the perception that any content on the site is just "filler" grade material. The current one had me pause and look around. It gave me a first impression that there's likely to be quality content.

" Internet users can give Web sites a thumbs up or thumbs down in less than the blink of an eye, according to a study by Canadian researchers.

In just a brief one-twentieth of a second -- less than half the time it takes to blink -- people make aesthetic judgments that influence the rest of their experience with an Internet site. "

an international gay dating site would be huge with that domain

Every major domain acquisition that has to be developed into a full scale content rich site, especially in that price range, is done with at least 2 or 3 main guys and a staff team to manage the day to day operations. Same way like the Sex.com acquisition was just done. Its too much risk, work, and time for one person to manage. There's also more investment risk safety with a group.

sfera 01-22-2006 04:31 PM

sad to see a good domian go to waste

slapass 01-22-2006 04:40 PM

The facts are that a great domain does not make a great site. The twelve year olds that do type ins are not buyers so you need to sell them right away with PPC or trade them for real surfers.

So what KRL is doing is building s ite form the ground up and I am sure that is hard without major cash in flows.

thats not how business works. you need vision, great leadership, great planning and great execution... all those things you seem to be missing. in fact, from everything you have done with it so far, you have not even shown that you are even remotely close to doing anything with that domain. your justification for the purchase price was the ability to sell mainstream advertising and all you have created so far after all this time is abortion after abortion and you blame it on "the team". who chooses these "teams"? that same logic absolves Bush of everything he has ever done wrong.

would you and your partners entertain the idea of changing the format of men.com from a straight men's into a gay men's site if shown that a re-investement would show a better ROI than what you are looking at now?

SleazyDream 01-22-2006 05:16 PM

i find it funny to think that just cause gay traffic converts better the trolls think it's the only way to go. they fail to say on what traffic SOURCE it converts better

think about this - there might be a cap on the amount of gay traffic to get to men.com - and straight traffic would have a much much higher cap and many more marketable options...

example - gay traffic might convert 1/40 - but ONLY to gay sites and such - and might cap at 30,000 hits a day - which would be HUGE in the gay marketplace - i don't think there's even a gay tgp that big....

but men.com might get to 200K + a day being straight - and then it's markerable to EVERYTHING -no converions to worry about - he's got the same marketplace as any normal men's magazine and those clients don't even worry about conversion - they just want branding. - it's MUCH better option long run

but try and explain that to a short sighted troll that thinks that conversions are everything - good luck - idiots that have never done anything in their lives ALWAYS know the best way for others to run their business. :thumbsup

but what do I know - i'm just an idiot

I looked at all the options, including the gay market. I spoke with the CEO of Gay.com early on about doing a cross marketing and content deal together. At the end of the day, the numbers just didn't justify the risk in pursuing a limited single demographic niche accounting for only 15% to 25% of our traffic. And when you figure the gay market will still respond to mainstream advertiser offerings, it really didn't make sense from a risk perspective because we'd be blowing off the majority of the mainstream traffic. So the decision and long term plan is for straight mainstream.

Actually the gay traffic market value is higher than straight, even though you can get a lot more straight traffic, gay is worth more per visitor by a lot. Forgetting about the gay marketing on a site like men.com is retarded. Men.com can easily market to straight, gay and bi, and triple it?s revenue for people only wanting to brand its products. It?s not maxim, stuff, or any MENS mag, it?s an online site that can easily cater to all men.

Men.com should be for "MEN", be they are straight, gay, brown, white, etc.

And now to help out what you called the "trolls". Speaking off... This is basic online mareketing 101. You can take a course and learn this at your local college, or go to about any online seminar (adult or not) and learn about gay traffic value over straight.

just get laid with someone who turns you on - it will release a lot of tension within you and you won't be searching for spelling mistakes anymore. sometimes it helps to fuck a person ie a girl that looks like a guy - or a guy that looks like a girl - aan easy way to bridge that gap without freaking yourself out

this psychology "theory" really has no backing.. state your sources Dr. Sleazy.. i highly doubt there are case studies of people correcting moron's spelling problems.

although your advice of "just get laid with someone who turns you on - it will release a lot of tension within you and you won't be searching for spelling mistakes anymore. sometimes it helps to fuck a person ie a girl that looks like a guy - or a guy that looks like a girl - aan easy way to bridge that gap without freaking yourself out" really seems like something you recommend, try it much?
