2hpFuck, falling sky. |
The main difference in the gas price scenario between Europe and the U.S. is that the U.S. govt over the last 50+ years has encouraged it's citizens to move outside of the major cities to the suburbs.
This has been done through tax policy as well as marketing tactics. (You need a backyard to raise a family...blah blah blah) Now our citizens are getting hit with record high gas prices but we live 30+ miles away from our jobs, so public transportation, walking, or riding a bike aren't options for us the way they are for someone in London. When gas prices go up we have no choice but to suffer the cost, those of you living in the EU have much better public transportation options. |
Also another thing I'd like to add about gas prices.
Sure you have higher prices in Sweden but that's because your government is taxing the gas at an extremely high rate to discourage consumption. If you don't like it you can vote those people out of office and elect people who will repeal the gas taxes. In the U.S. it's not the taxes that have driven the price up, it's the unstable market, and since we have freedom of speech here I can bitch and moan all I want about the towel heads getting $70+ a barrel for something we paid $20 a barrel for a few years ago. |

Fact is: when I pay for gas I'm out of more money than someone in the US. The oil companies still get the same profit as in the US. So, who gets fucked more? |

How about this citroen c4 hybrid

I'm not too impressed with this debate.
Regardless of high tax rates or lack thereof, gas prices are at record highs everywhere (except many third world countries) because of the cost of a barrel. If the cost of gas tripled here in the states, isn't it safe to say (and if I'm wrong kandah point it out) that the price of gas will rise at the same rate in sweden? It can get confusing with price gouging, and regulated prices, but still, the margin of cost should be directly correlated with the barrel. So, if in sweden you used to pay $2 per litre, and now you pay six, it's no different than a region in the states that used to pay $1 and now pays three. The actual "$" number is irrelevant because you were used to having in your consumer basket to begin with. If someone had their gas price quadruple, while somebody elses only tripled, then they have the right to complain. :2 cents: |

...so I got her a time for tomorrow at a private place. I have used the public healthcare system once, and they gave me the wrong drugs after 8 months of waiting in line.. whee, the next day I went to a private place and got the right stuff. Socialist bastard countries like everyone in scandinavia are absolutely purely shit. Everyone is equal, everyone is poor, everyone is miserable. Yay! for outrageous taxes and health-care payments that we get nothing for in return. |
