Taboo 06-18-2006 10:05 PM

I wonder how many sponsors still payout on revshare even if you've stopped promoting their site? anyone have a sponsor cut you off when they found out you were no longer active? just curious...

The programs that offer TOO Much for the affiliate end up shaving to get by.

Only a few can do it.

I'm sure programs that offer very LITTLE for the affiliate shave as well. I don't think offering TOO much means that a sponsor is branded as a SHAVER... many of the things we're discussing don't focus solely on payouts & percentages.

if a sponsor can only offer $30 PPS or 50% RevShare but had a long features/benefits list: i.e. rss feeds, byot, co-branding, watermarking, FHGs, realtime stats, weekly payouts, multi-tiered, longer cookies, contests, fansigns, trucker hats & tshirts (like the company in your sig :)), lots of updates, (above average) design, quality content, site access, and support, support, support... that wouldn't make them dishonest in my eyes.

but I see your point... but shaving happens at every level, regardless of industry. fact of life... but if you suspect someone's shaving, move on.

Personally, I think my Bank has been shaving me lately. :winkwink:

Totally depends on what your traffic source is on what you would need in an affiliate program - like a TGP submitter isn't going to give a rats ass about RSS feeds but may be intersted in free hosting....

For me, the minimum standard a program NEEDS before I even look at it:

- Good reputation with positive history (to prove they can pay me if I send 2,000 joins tomorrow - a lot of smaller companies just can't meet this)
- Credit for exits, or increased $persign for not retaining credit on exits down the line.
- A few other things.....

Basic items like realtime stats, on-time payouts, icq/aim support should I need it, multiple join options I get credit for, epass payouts and such are so standard now that you wouldn't even bother having a program without it. Like buying a car without air conditioning or power windows.....

Affiliates: above all else, do your homework before switching sponsors so you don't need to come onto gfy and bitch about them later down the line.

serious question:

How many of you out there will only promote a program if it offers Pay Per Signup? Do you shy away from RevShare only?

I just wanted to reply to the idea of the lifetime locked cookie. Which is the dumbest idea I have ever heard of.

Someone could make a single page which would popup, frame, or script hundreds and hundreds of programs sites, inherently placing the lifetime locked cookie onto their computer for all of those site. They would then own that surfer's subscriptions for life unless he got a new computer/formatted.

still lots of room for improvement & evolution of the idea.

not to put you on the spot.. but, for comparions's sake, how long are your cookies set for?

bump for a rare business thread!

Sasha13 06-23-2006 02:33 PM

Thanks for starting this thread Taboo.

I just started with a new sponsor program and will make sure to implement as many of the suggestions possible.

I wanted to ask what you thought was a good turnaround time on creating custom galeries, Banners etc? 24 hrs?

I also wanted to ask what everyone finds is the best format for galleries...#pics, #of vids, length of vids (3 x 20 secs, 1 x 60 secs, etc...)?

Thanks for all your help and since I have a "Crackberry" I always get back to you :)

anne 06-23-2006 05:11 PM

Finnallly a thread that made me smarter instead of the normal junk. Thank you :)

Everything before your post had me thinking WTF, these are for nothing. GOOD POST.

I want one thing, and yes I'm also an affiliate. A SITE THAT CONVERTS AND PAYS MORE THAN THE OTHERS.

Paul Markham 06-24-2006 01:55 AM

Seen some good ideas here and some ideas that show where the affiliates thinking is coming from, COMPUTERS.

A lot of the thinking is based around the vehicle that delivers the product and very little about the actual product itself.

Who here has asked for FANTASTIC PORN THAT IS NOT ON 10,000 OTHER SITES? Even though it's exclusive 90% of what is being sold is duplicated again and again. Look at all the great sites that make affiliates lots of money and you see something different or better.

So here's my wish list I want from a sponsor.

GIVE THE SURFERS SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE, HE JOINS.

That's it, keep your stats, cookies, banners and computer related crap. Just give the surfer a great experience, convert and retain him and keep him coming to the Internet to buy porn.

If more sponsors did that and worried less about the affiliates we would all be making more money.

We are not providing you with free advertising if we gave you the content.

But there's nothing to stop you buying content and putting your own label on it. :winkwink:

I juast started a review site, www.primepornreviews.com, which will get launched soon I promise.

I was surprised at the number of sites who were scared to give me access, scared I might give a too true review? And it was not just me I heard of other sites that do the same.

What are they scared of?

yep. happens across the board. a lot of sponsors aren't focused on giving the member any reason to recur, and I don't doubt that many aren't delivering what they promised on the inside.

shiloh451 06-24-2006 04:40 PM

A couple of additions.
1) Easy campaign setup for ad tracking.
2)Make the no console option obvious.
3)At least a monthly stats summary by email.
4) And yes the banner/ad situation is all over the place.

scottybuzz 06-24-2006 04:54 PM

yes i dont give a fuck about rewards, the money you make is your reward to buy the rewards -you- want.

What I like is that the sites I send to are designed to rebill.

Pays weekly
Support high
fansigns are important to my site, so i need them
and good porn i can whack of too

#3, it should be daily updates via email or rss... that would make more sense.

Sometimes it's not about paying more than the others or even converting more, depending on your business model it's much better to have conversions, retention, AND consistancy, even if the numbers don't seem as impressive at first as the big PPS sponsors.

that is from a marketing point of view very advanced.
even if the brand is not mentioned, the product will sell by itself.

good, if the afilliate is a brand itself.
risky, if not.

Please share...

For me:

my short list of features I look for, not all are necessary components, but this is my wishlist:
- Real time stats
- Frequent Payouts
- PPS & Revshare options... cause sometimes I prefer revshare
- Multi-tiered webmaster referrals
- Eternal Cookies
- RSS Feeds
- Bonus Payouts
- Paid on exits, cross-sells, upsells, etc.

Even if your feature list is similar to mine, please repost it so I can see how important certain features are to everybody. I know some people love getting rewards, prizes, etc... some people don't care...

If anyone's got any suggestions or features for an affiliate program to implement... please share. If you're ever wanted to see something in an affiliate program or any staples that must be included, let me know... let's just say... I'm curious.

This list isn't just for me for any program I launch in the future, this is a list that all sponsors should contribute to & be aware of.

I'm sure GFY is a vault of business insight & knowledge, let's tap into it.

I see that everything is relivent. But just because you build it dont mean it's gonna work, but the odd's are in the internet vendors favor... I have what I call the internet bible, and it is priceless, but I'll sell the info for $50.00 a page. contact me [email protected]
