LMAO

That was pretty funny Tipsy... hehehehe

brazz 06-03-2002 02:44 PM

As a Brazilian, I think I should add some words.

First off, there was one (and only one) country that won the World Cup outside of its continent: Brazil won in Sweden, 1958.

About politics: for a long time, only 16 countries played the finals. There was a Brazlian guy, Joćo Havelange, who ruled FIFA for many years; every time there was an election, Havelange wanted to increase the number of teams (until reaching the current 32). Havelange said he wanted to give more chances to other countries and continents, and his adversaries said he wanted just to get more votes (which he indeed did).

As far as I remember, the weaker Continents (Africa and Asia), which have many countries (and many votes, one country = one vote), were given a few new openings in the finals, but Europe was given many more (South America was given just one more). So, Europeans don“t have much to complain about; if it is hard today (I personally agree that Holland should be in again), it was harder earlier.

I don“t really care much. Is Saudi Arabia too weak? Right, let Germany beat it 8x0, but Germany will have to beat Brazil, Argentina or France on its way to title. But I am sure that the Saudis, the Chinese, the Costa Ricans and all the other countries will enjoy much their participation in the Cup (which is, afterall, the main goal of all this story).

Peace,

brazz

WhoTheFuckIsThisAsshole 06-03-2002 03:13 PM

nice reply, brazz.

please tell me howcome romario didnt get a place on your team (you could have used him in the first half today)

Dax 06-03-2002 04:32 PM

Very good Brazz...

Romario is not in the team, for "political" shit... he does not like the coach and the coach feels the same for Romario.

Also Brazz, thanks for correcting me on the Brasil '58 victory... I had forgotten about that.. even though that was Pelé's breakout year... And he was just 17... what an athlete.

Peace!

brazz 06-04-2002 04:06 AM

WTFITA,
When Scollari, the Brazilian coach, assumed the Brazilian team, he was friends with Romario, and Romario was the captain of the team.
Then, Brazil went to play America Cup, a less important competition; Romario asked not to go, saying he was going to have a surgery.
Instead, Romario went to another competition with Vasco, his team, got some extra money, and spent some vacation im Mexico. Romario lied and Brazil lost America Cup (which almost caused Scolari to be sacked).
Scolari took it personally and, just before going to Japan, he admitted that this was the reason why he didn“t call Romario.
Surveys among fans and the press indicate that most wanted Romario to go; I think Brazil will miss him, just like we did in France (Ronaldinho is younger and stronger, but Romario is more willing to take responsibilities when the match is tight).

Dax,
I (and the whole world outside US) agree with you: Pelé = genius.

The qualifying group is so weak that the best country in the group are countries like saudia arabia, china, and costa rica. Any European side can beat these, save Luxumburg and San Marino.

It never used to be like this. But since it has become political and finacial, these qualification groups have produced these "qualifiers"

It cannot be purely financial as the viewing audience for Holland V Czech is always going to be more than these lesser football nations.

Yes they get pulled out of a bag, but who controls what nations go into the bag? If it was not so do you think they would be holding the Worl Cup in Japan & Korea?

Is it getting clearer to the younger members of the board?

CHARLY......

KOREA 2 BELGIUM 0

Ok so what do you have to say now ???? Belgium a European country who supposedly rightfully qualified over Holland and Czech Rep... got badly beaten by the "weak" host ......

Now what? Can you please admit you FUCKED UP! And you have no clue of what the fuck u are talking about?????

AWW - Kevin 06-04-2002 08:04 AM

the koreans played well and deserved to win:2 cents:

Actually it was Poland who lost from Korea, not Belgium ...

I think they played 2-2 against Japan.

Darren 06-04-2002 01:19 PM

obviously seems "charly" is not a big enough man to admit it.

Dax 06-04-2002 03:26 PM

Mike you are right.. I guess staying up all these mornings to watch the games... got to me.. =)

Like I said.. isn't Poland from Europe? and didn't they qualify over the netherlands, czech among others??

Enough said! =)

Am I blind? Can anyone see me say Korea in this?

This is what makes soccer so exciting. Swindon, Sunderland, West Ham (when they were 2nd division) winning the cup.

Plus the idiots you meet on the terraces, plus here as well it seems? Did I say Korea?

Dax 06-04-2002 03:40 PM

Charly, here is what you said:

" Yes they get pulled out of a bag, but who controls what nations go into the bag? If it was not so do you think they would be holding the Worl Cup in Japan & Korea? "

MY POINT IS, THE WORLD CUP IS NOT FIXED!!

Another point, we will see who goes farther: Korea who beat a European country... ( which is in the world cup by being better than the teams you mentioned ) or Costa Rica

We all have diff opinions some more fucked up than others.

Someone else agrees with me?

I am only saying the qualifying rounds are arranged so that weaker side canl get in. But when the whistle blows anything can happen.

Dax 06-04-2002 03:44 PM

Qualifying is there to pick the teams that deserve to go and to give everyone the chance.

Is not like Senegal is a futbol power... yet they beat France... =\

THAT is why they play the games...

Darren 06-05-2002 06:40 AM

Charly changing ur tune again i see, lol ur funny

Poppy 06-05-2002 02:35 PM

xxxchamp- I honestly thought the USA was going to draw against Portugal. Soccer or Futbol will never be the #1 sport in America. Too many sports to choose from. Plus, Americans in general love high scoring games. However, we do have a league that has been going since 96' http://majorleaguesoccer.com and it will continue to grow. This was a win for the ages amigo.

BTW...whose is your team and what country are you from? The USA will advance to the 2nd round and I have them bowing out in the Final 8. There you go. That is my prediction.
