I wasn't able to get out of bed for a month because the pain was horrible and when I finally did WOW what a feeling! The blood rushed to my leg when I stood up pretty much paralizing it. It felt 100 times worse than when your leg falls asleep....same feeling, just more intense. I think it took me about 6 months to stop limping while walking and to lose the crutches completely. 1 year to be able to run slowly. Now 3 years later the leg is perfect except for a few minor things.

What sucks now is that the knee area is still numb. The skin is like dead there to feeling. And if I touch the scar I can feel it in my lower leg not on the scar itself. The nerves realigned themselves in a strange way. And the scar is still sensitive....kind of like a bruise. SO if it gets hit the right way, you feel it.

I live in NY so humidity is pretty high. Only recently did I stop actually feeling the effects of humidity. If you live in a dry area, you won't know what I mean so don't worry. If you do, you will get pain when it gets humid. But like I said, right now I pretty much don't get that anymore. I do alot of excercise and run alot so it helped heal the leg.

Best advice, take it easy...don't go playing sports for at least a year until your leg heals nicely, otherwise it can tear again. Don't run or jog for now, use excercise machines to build the muscle. RUnning is very hard on your joints. Stick with thephysical therapy. It sucks in the beginning especially doing the stretches. I know right now you can barely reach a 45 degree bend. It took I think about 2 years to get full stretch where I can reach my butt with my foot again.

Best of luck to you man!

Were you working with a doctor and physical therapist? I was up day two on crutches at doctors orders. Physio was on day 3. No crutches after 10 days. Running by month 3. Cuts by month 4-5 or something like that. Cleared for all activities at month 6 checkup.

I had the Canadian National SKi team surgeon do mine and he was very adimant that I work it from the start. Wanted me walking to the bathroom on day 1 but I couldnt do that.

I can't imagine doing it in both.

That is great that you are already doing the therapy. That is huge. Hopefully your therapist is good and gets your Range of Motion back as soon as possible. Nothing worse than trying to ride the bike and your knee cant get all around but the pain is crazy. Or when the therapist is pushing your heel to your ass while you are on your stomach. You want to punch her so bad.

But so worth it to get the ROM back asap.

Mate,

Look after yourself, get strong and get well.

You'll be back better than ever before you know it.

;-)

Ann-Angelcom 07-19-2006 12:33 AM

Axeman, not sure if you had just acl or just the meniscus. If you have both, the recovery is much harder than having just one done.

That being said, I did have one of the best surgeons in NY do mine and also worked with physical therapists, although I admit I did slack on therapy because of the pain.

I do think your timeline is somewhat exaggerated though. I absolutely can not see how it would be possible to run 10 days after the surgery. Not even ball players can do that unless they inject roids and pain killers into it. Again sounds like you had only ONE of the things done, because I have heard of quick recoveries from either or alone.

Either that or you are like wolverine or something :) Either way, if it's true, I'm happy for you because the pain is terrible.

I too went home the night of the surgery in a wheel chair and I crawled up the stairs of my house. Once inside I passed out on the floor from the pain and exhaustion from getting myself in.

And don't feel bad about not being able to do anything. I couldn't even get out of bed to shit LOL. I ate very little so I wouldn't have to. By the end of the recovery I had lost 30lbs LOL From 170 to 140. NICE!

Awww poor cory :(

I'm glad you put this thread up - I was going to ICQ you but I figured you'd be slammed with messages. The whole WEG crew is waiting for your healthy return!

MicroChick 07-19-2006 02:11 AM

Cory, don't do what my relatives did. They didn't take the therapy seriously.

It seems surgeons cut you, then throw you to the wolves. Get some good therapists, and follow their instructions and don't try to be *superman* and do too much too soon. You sound like my basketball hall of fame uncle who recently injured his knee. Take it easy.

Speedy recovery.:thumbsup

Kimo 07-19-2006 03:08 AM

yeah just make sure you do that therapy, and youll be back on your feet in no time :)

JFK 07-19-2006 03:17 AM

Fitty come backs, best of luck for the recovery Cory:thumbsup

I am already putting some pressure on it (today is 3). I go in today to speak about the therapy.

To be honest, it hurts so bad I want to move it and loosen it up.

seeric 07-19-2006 08:46 AM

one too many cannonballs!!!!!!!

lol. j/k get better man. knees are freakin painful to say the least.

B2BwithJoeD 07-19-2006 08:56 AM

Do everything your therapist tells you...sounds like the same surgery my wife had in December :(

Did they give you the Ice Man? What an amazing machine, that really helped...

Sounds like they gave you the same speech, too - "No big deal, you'll be off the crutches walking around like your old self in two weeks." :winkwink: :1orglaugh

Take care of yourself -

haha yes, it is obvious this recovery will be tough. I got that ice machine, it is pretty nice man. It helps a lot.

GUNNER 07-19-2006 05:58 PM

That's gotta hurt like a f'ng bitch, but keep your head up kid, be positive... you'll be better than new once it heals. Once you're all better, we might even have to get some squats going in the gym sometime.

MaddCaz 07-19-2006 06:15 PM

do ya ting!!!!!!

King Adam 07-20-2006 06:04 AM

Hey brotha ... you know I'm pullin for ya. I blew out my shoulder and had tears all over and it was by far the worst pain. The thing that sucks is that it lasts for months. It took almost 6 months to start feeling better.

Stay strong, stay positive and keep the Percocet coming for awile. It really is the only thing that will help you get some sleep at night.

I'm prayin for a full recovery and I have a feeling you might bring your A game to Phoenix this next round. I want to be on your team :)

Anyway, get better and if you need anything, just holla.

PhillipB 07-20-2006 07:40 AM

I'm sorry to hear that Cory...it must be tough for Erm being couped up in the apartment all the time, waiting on you hand and foot, day and night. If you need to me to take her out, you know, just because we're good friends and stuff, I guess I could find some time. She hasn't seen my new bed yet, huh? It's a pretty nice bed...Sealy Sexopedic or something rather. I got it yesterday for a good deal. Anyway, let me know how I can help and seriously, if you need me to take out your girlfriend I totally will. Here's to a speedy recovery!
