macmark 08-09-2006 06:04 PM

How many repeat? surely that's some kind of indication as to whether it's worth it or not.

Skinning GFY is a one time thing, why would you repeat unless you had something new to promote?

E$_manager 08-09-2006 06:21 PM

it must be very good way to promote your program, instead of post whoring here. but very costly of course.

It's worthless. Fastsize had a banner on GFY for 2 years, and it probably brought a whopping 4 russian webmasters.

I can't imagine how useless a skin would be. It's passive lazy marketing. Try contacting people, not waiting for them to contact you.

reynold 08-09-2006 07:19 PM

Worth it. Clients won't keep coming if they are not getting something from it. :)

Evil Chris 08-09-2006 07:44 PM

Does Krispy Kreme do any television/print/radio ads?

Skins are more obvious than banners... to be honest I hardly notice the latter since I'm conditioned to look downwards for content.

Stumps 08-09-2006 09:39 PM

Skinning GFY is a one of a kind marketing opportunity. It instantly puts your company name on the map saying "I've arrived, look at what I have to offer". When you have a new product or are re-launching a product, you can do all of the press releases you want, buy banners, and make posts on boards - but not everyone is going to see or hear about it. When you skin GFY everyone talks about you.

emthree 08-09-2006 11:35 PM

Not worth it, if there's going to be a skin every other week.

The Ghost 08-09-2006 11:48 PM

It's worth it just to support GFY and keep it going. It helps assure we all have major central place to go. For branding of a program, I can see it as effective for a few reasons. Remember all, you can't sell a product no one knows exisits. And if the product has a bad rep, it's a big way to explain the changes and fixes. Many people might miss a sticky thread or banner. It's pretty hard to miss a skin. :winkwink:

I'm sure the next few weeks will be full of Fleshlight threads, and hopefully more on the positive side with webmasters making more money with the progam upgrade. I'll be interested in finding out that information as well.

Now with this new 25k, let's get the search function fixed dammit!

diesel 08-10-2006 01:07 AM

Its enought to get 5 great new partners and it will easily payoff.

GoodGuy 08-10-2006 01:14 AM

20K?????
WTF???????????????

How can some sponsors have so much money to skin GFY like nothing??

I know, they shave us, webmasters, while we work hard, fucking sponsor owners get rich and travel around the world with their fucking notebooks.

en21 08-10-2006 01:18 AM

i like the skin

I got few hundreds of it. Not only from the banner, you need to make the most of the whole promo. So fastsize made a shitty job, who was their sales rep back then?

you could have spent the $25k though to buy a few good posters sigs for almost a year or so......

gooddomains 08-10-2006 01:58 AM

I think it's definately worth it, great marketing tool for sure

I was buying a few sigs back then, when it was profitable. Then people slowly stopped clicking sigs, yet people ask the same amount or even more for them. :)

do you think people CLICK on the skin?

they just see it and after they see it long enough, they might get interested and click... or just type in the url... or it might never happen cause you can't force someone to join your pgrogram even if you spent $2millions for a 365-day GFY skin :)

same goes for sigs

polish_aristocrat 08-10-2006 02:11 AM

sigs also add recognition and allow a certain branding

I'm not sure if Juicy's sigs get clicked so often f.e yet he still gets more for it than a few of other top posters combined...

Yeah, but everyone sees the skin...and people may like or don't certain posters. For example few guys I was talking to, guys with a decent traffic and sales, they don't have sigs turned on, nor do they know any of the big posters.

VicD 08-10-2006 03:46 AM

it can benefit you ofcourse...

Evil Chris 08-10-2006 06:01 AM

Maybe GFY should keep a list of who has skinned the board.
Quite honestly I don't remember who did it prior to Perfectgonzo and I'm pretty sure most others don't as well.

maxidrom11 08-10-2006 06:08 AM

skinning GFY ... what a big deal???

Swanks 08-10-2006 07:17 AM

Id say this is one of the best skins ive seen so far. I love illustrated stuff.

20k :Oh crap

Odie 08-10-2006 08:32 AM

yay for fleshlight!! I think it's worth it if your objectives are met and it looks like fleshlight did it for the right reasons. There was a lot of drama in the past and relaunching their program, making the changes that were necessary to make ppl aware that they listened, makes $20k worth spending. :)

ajrocks 08-10-2006 09:42 AM

It's a great branding situation, it won't make you 20K of sales back right away but in the long term it will

JasonB 08-10-2006 09:43 AM

I was quoted $25k
