Only assure is used with reference to a person in the sense of ?to set the mind at rest?: The ambassador assured the Prime Minister of his loyalty.

Why don't you just admit that you are wrong?

There is no shame in getting a word wrong, but there definitely is shame in defending the indefensible.

LOL Jimmie will never do anything to anyone. He told NOFX he was going to break his Jaw and then about 1 month later wrote it off to "i am done with it, he is banned and i am not" etc... Classic all talk, no action, keyboard warrior.

He may talk big online but he will never do anything about it, he has proven that. Just ask NOFX if you don't believe me. :1orglaugh

What's really got your knickers in a twist? I'm assuming I insulted one of your pals or something. Whatever. Skate it off man, it happens.

I have (up til tonight) had nothing but respect for you. That's changing rapidly. You're acting like a twat. Don't ever fucking threaten me dude. I'm not some scrawny fucking gimp you can push around at some fucking twink bar somewhere. For real.

Anyway.

After you began your episode tonight I tried to contact you on ICQ to see what your fucking malfunction was and you ignored me. Oh well.

I'm asking PUBLICLY, what's got your panties in a bunch guy?

Ps: Fuck you.

1. to secure or guarantee: This letter will ensure you a hearing.
2. to make sure or certain: measures to ensure the success of an undertaking.

Sorry, but Jim was right. Assure is the better word.

Think of it like this- ensure means the same as "make sure". You should be able to interchange those two in a sentence, and the sentence should still make sense.

You know, I train 6 days a week, sometimes as long as 4 hours a day. I'm in pretty good shape and I'm a pretty good fighter because of it ... Let me tell you though, I'd think twice about dancing with Lindsay though.

I don't mean I'm afraid of him, and I'm not trying to kiss his ass, I'm just saying he's a meaty man with a neck the size of my waist and a pretty solid looking jaw. Good luck Jim.

Solid Bob 08-25-2006 10:05 PM

Damn, don't you hate it when you have a perfectly good piss going on with someone in a thread and it gets sidetracked? It's about YOU dammit, and these people shouldn't be ignoring that fact and posting grammar links. :thumbsup

I will personal ENSURE and ASSURE that Lindsay will back up whatever he says on the boards in person. Period. :)

KrisKross 08-25-2006 11:44 PM

You don't ensure somebody, you assure them.

"I ensure you that..." is not proper usage. For example, you could say "I assure you that you're wrong" but not "I ensure you that you're wrong". Instead, you'd say "I'll ensure that you're wrong". Slight and subtle difference in use, but a difference nonetheless.

Just because one word is a synonym of the other doesn't mean they're perfectly interchangeable. For example, "believe" and "affirm" are synonyms. You can say "I believe in God" but you wouldn't say "I affirm in God". Instead, you'd say something like "I affirm God's existence".

Capice?

High Plains Drifter 08-25-2006 11:58 PM
