I read yahoo news and then when the story has something in it I need to look up
I search on google for it. :1orglaugh

Yahoo has plenty of great stuff, but that is just not the issue.

How many times have you seen something really great fail anyway?

If the cards say you lose then there is no winning strategy no matter how you play the hand.

You're missing my point DUDE.

Yahoo is a PORTAL. Not just a search engine.

If they sell their search off to MSN, they still can survive fine. They can revert back to how they USED to be. Having Google doing their search.

While you where on the yahoo financial page I hope you checked their stock price.
Maybe you didn't see it because it crooks the neck to look down that far. :1orglaugh

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=GOOG

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=YHOO

Yahoo will be "saved" by selling out, so it will still get it's share of traffic, but to go from
"owning" the net to just getting your share is not what anyone would be seeking.

Yahoo used to rule and it ruled absolutely as it commanded payment to get listed in
it's results at a level that noone else even dared try.

$600 to get a commercial listing plus I think it was $300 per year after to maintain.

So, hmmmmmmmm?? I can get listed on yahoo for $600 or I can buy a share and 1/2 of
GOOG stock.....which one are people buying?

Yahoo fucked up when they started charging for inclusion into their directory. That was charging you to provide them with content. Their directory has all but died. It isn't worth shit to be included anymore.

Now they have a video section which hotlinks your fucking videos...of course I redirect to a pay site when the surfer clicks. But how stupid is this considering that they already had porn listings in the directory and all they had to do was accept gallery URLs and build the biggest TGP in the world.

Somehow I feel like these are moves of despiration from yahoo.

I think they fucked up Geocities. They shoud have left it as it was and just beefed up the services. The geocities "neighborhood" concept was a better approach.

Those companies that died in the "dot com bust" should start looking at things again. Bandwidth is at an all time low; new types and more surfers now; cheaper programmers available; more affiliate marketing and faster technology and better media tools. A company with some millions to spend could come in now with a solid approach and wipe yahoo off the map.
I think stuff like Utube and wikipedia are showing how to cut into the web market
and it's just a matter of time before somebody take yahoo on.

I think it's a good time to look for stock in upstart dot coms again.

Was the best $300 I ever spent per site early on.
I only wish I had more sites back when I did it.

Google just backed out of a deal with yahoo on search and it would have given yahoo
$800 million profit per year.

Google is sidelined from yahoo because of fear of anti-trust suits from other web companies.

MSN has plenty of money to sling at yahoo; but I seriouly doubt MSN can "improve"
yahoo. Yahoo is already better than MSN!

go guess what will happen :)

Oh, no doubt about back in the day.

I got in when there was no charge to get listed and a single site listing would
get 10k a day from yahoo!

Traffic goes down?....Submit another 3 paged site. :1orglaugh

I mean, dude I had sites with a front page and 5 picture galleries getting 10k a day. :1orglaugh

New webmasters just have no clue about how easy this thing used to be.
We had it made back then.

You know, me too. Though I never go directly to Google News for a story but I will go to Yahoo first and then search for further details via Google which lands me on Google news. Interesting because they pretty much both take the same feeds.

Yahoo is dead

SomeCreep 11-06-2008 12:16 PM

Jerry Yang is a dumb turd for not selling Yahoo when he could.

HomerSimpson 11-06-2008 02:00 PM

I don't visit yahoo for search, but just to see the latest news...
news.google.com - sucks!

Tom_PM 11-06-2008 02:16 PM

I used to have yahoo as a home page until they added so much crap that it took too long, so I've had google for ages now. Used to go to Yahoo to check headlines still.. but more and more I just google and click news.. it's really fast and you dont get the "picked and chosen" headlines.. you just get them all in a wad.
