It could have easily happened. most people don't check that they're going to https://epassporte.com/ instead of http://epassporte.com/ so it would have been very much possible for someone to setup a fake AP and launch a "man in the middle" attack.

BlackCrayon 04-03-2007 02:55 PM

Whoever did this you can be sure it wasn't the first time they've done it.

This makes me wonder if using hotel highspeed is safe.
Of course certain things are encrypted but say for example im connecting to a computer via remote desktop. can the hotel gain access to the computer as well or see what i am doing on it?

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 04-03-2007 02:57 PM

I don't use ePass, so I can't understand how such a transaction could occur.

When I perform fund transfers using other services, there has to be a registered party the money is transferred to. Since it was your money, it would seem that ePass can tell you who the money went to (and you should have a receipt or documentation as well), otherwise I can see where all kinds of fraud is possible if the person receiving the money is totally anonymous.

Sorry to hear about this, and I do hope the thief is caught...

Sorry further that it happened to you.

Even more so that the odds favor it being someone we know.

Karma has a way of correcting things like this.

I've had three friends in three months have their identity stolen. Just goes to show you it's more rampant than most of us realize.

I wonder how a scumbag like the one that did this feels about himself when he looks in the mirror.

Sorry about your friends Rand. If they are in Cali or some other states please let them know to put a "security freeze" on all 3 of there credit reports - If they haven't done so already or already have fraud alearts on them.

Also ppl, subscribe to truecredit.com, always keep up to date on your 3 major credit reports.

1 payment per month, you can access all 3 reports, TU, Experian, and Equifax every 24 hrs.

Sorry again JFK - some ppl were not raised correctly.

hindsight is 100% , but I guess appearently NOT...... It did say when you signed up for it that it was an unsecure feed.

simple, you take the motherfucker and ask them what they are thinking about knowing they are about to meet their maker ? then you put two in the back of the head.
who ever did this to such a nice guy like JFK is a low life shitass.
hope you find the fucken JFK.
ask epass to help you and if they don't have records of where the money went they might be breaking US laws as I believe they have to maintain records since they do business in the US and as per US laws since 9/11 all financial institutions doing business in the US have to keep records of all money trails.
part of one of the bills they passed after the event.
they can also be taken to court for negligence if they don't keep the records.

Marina just told me about this thread. Sorry to hear about this JFK. Some people are pathetic.

I know hindsite is 20-20 but I use my own wireless broadband when traveling. I would check into that going forward.

pr0 04-03-2007 03:33 PM

JFK, hit me up on icq 440-887.

I'd be more than happy to give you some extremely good tips to keep yourself perfectly safe at upcoming shows.

As well as explain to you what more than likely happened.

And when you find out who did it, I'll be the first one to help you jump em :pimp

Poppy 04-03-2007 03:49 PM

Bad bad character. Karma is a bitch.

Peaches 04-03-2007 03:50 PM

Why do you think this was someone in the industry and not a hotel employee? Just curious as I know there have been some thefts at shows that were done by hotel employees, not webmasters.

kicks 04-03-2007 03:57 PM

JFK hate hearing this. Hate to think anyone we were all there drinking and having a good time with could also there to steal from us. Karma will catch up with them for sure but I hope you do first!

about your own wireless broadband, how does that work? its accessable anywhere you go as long as the area is covered? for example, travelling overseas it wouldn't work but travelling a few states over it would?

here in canada rogers offers such a thing but rogers isn't supported in all areas of canada even, so not sure how good it actually is if it works that way.

TeenCat 04-03-2007 04:05 PM

i read all ... but is there a cure? for sure not! everyone just say "sorry to hear" and "maybe this and that ... " but man, you know where the truth is. if you feel so secure, there must be problem on epass side ... :2 cents: doesnt matter who is having the prob ...

Mickey_ 04-03-2007 04:17 PM

As i said when you've told me at the show: TRULY SUCKS!

Ycaza 04-03-2007 04:17 PM

just let me know who it is i would be happy to help

CuriousToyBoy 04-03-2007 04:26 PM

That is wrong on SOOOO many levels.

Maybe EPass could be "convinced" to shed some light on where the accounts come from.

Fuckers deserve neutering.

With a blunt spoon.

Makingcoin 04-03-2007 04:27 PM

Sorry to hear this JFK. Is it possible that someone entered your room and accessed your laptop?

ThumbLord 04-03-2007 04:32 PM

wow, this is bad as in very bad

Yes I use the sprint broadband card. Just about everywhere in the US it works and then some. When I went on a cruise this past Feb. I used it for nearly a full day of travel off shore. Its pretty handy.

Here is the current coverage map

http://coverage.sprintpcs.com/IMPACT.jsp

I have to wonder how long it will take before these networks expand internationally.

LiveDose 04-03-2007 04:55 PM

JFK that sucks. Bumping this thread to keep some focus on this and those account names.

Good luck.

D 04-03-2007 04:56 PM

That's petty fucked up.

If you ever do find out who did it, be sure that info gets around.

shermo 04-03-2007 05:03 PM

Ouch..I don't know how people can do things like this and still look themselves in the mirror. I hope you fnd out who's responsible for this. :(

Spunky 04-03-2007 05:04 PM

Damn scumbags ..hope you get your money back somehow

notabook 04-03-2007 05:11 PM

Sorry to hear man... my PP account got hacked a few months ago, they took $2k from me. Was able to get it back fairly quickly but it still sucks ass. After that I ordered the paypal security key (that 6-digit generator) and now even if my account is hacked there is no way for them to get my funds unless they have the security key as well. ePass should implement something similar, sure would make me feel 100% safer when using them.

Jman 04-03-2007 05:12 PM

Let's sort this out like the good ol days ;-)

Fuck it was simple back then, you fuck you get fucked...

fris 04-03-2007 05:14 PM

whoever did it had the perfect oppotunity, their wireless probably isnt secure, and he could browse any of the pcs on the network, and could just sniff all your web traffic.

What is the likelihood of the hotel employee having an epass (or multiple epass) accounts?

zibril 04-03-2007 05:24 PM

Sorry to hear that JFK, that sucks...

how would a hotel employee know about Epass and then transfer to an name like "team live sex"?

it was probably someone at the show, any decent tool and they could sniff all the traffic, meaning of 100 people signed into epass, he could have scammed them too.

g$$$ 04-03-2007 05:40 PM

sorry to hear that man...i hope u catch the people/persons involved!!!~

I felt secure up to this point and will not stop using them.Someone had my password and the system worked like it's supposed to. Up to this point I never had an issue with Epass, still dont, I guess the fault lies where I used an unsecure internet access and some THIEF took full advantage of it:2 cents:

sperbonzo 04-03-2007 05:51 PM

That's horrible Julius.... Please keep us updated if you find out anything more. I personally was fearful of just that kind of thing, so I didn't log into any financial accounts while we at the show.

PLEASE let us know if you find out more about it. This is unbelievably f*^#ed up. :(
