I merely meant that it isn't as close to the real deal as people try to make out.

And I personally, down to taste, don't find it as fun to watch as striking (thai, boxing, kickboxing)

Not to sound condesending to you, but just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. :)

Before this goes out on a MMA vs Boxing thread...

I train in Boxing almost daily, and love it. It's one part of my MMA training. :)

True, you do need boxing as a part of the MMA package.
Anthony hit me up when you get the vid of that fight. I'd like to put it up too if you don't mind. Plus I'd just like to see you fight! Good luck! :thumbsup

Those are injuries from not sparring smart, with pads, head protection, et al.

Bro... i love MMA and I was at a huge event at tristar gym yesterday... and I am pretty happy since 4/5 of guys from my gym that I wanted to win won. The only guy who lost ... it was his second fight and I felt that he got a little emotional and disfocused towards the end...He got a bit winded..and thats what I meant by sparring hard... he did not spar hard and that was part of the problem.
mista David "the Crow" showed up for the event!
Georges Saint Pierre was not there but I did see him training hard on monday :)

Hey BOSS1, where do you train if you don't mind me asking? you can PM me if you don't want the world to know. I train in the east end. Be kinda cool if we presently trained at the same gym, I might be a good sparring partner for ya! :thumbsup

Did you catch the fights at the Casino last night?

I train at Tristar Gym ( http://www.tristargym.com)
I was watching the Fight Quest MMA show there last night so I missed all the saturday night boxing events :(

I would like some new sparring partners :)

You got to use at least 16 oz leather gloves and headgear is up to you but I am wearing mine

figweed 04-16-2007 08:05 AM

no worries I don't spar to prove a point, just to work over technique, I wear headgear too!

Hit me up next time there's a gala at your gym, I'll go check it out, thanks man :thumbsup

Six days a week is intense.

Saw the vid. Keep that right hand UP.

You ducked that left hook good. Had he been faster and
more powerful you would have seen stars.

6 pro fights as a heavyweight in my much younger days.

Started in the gym when I was 10 years old.

Hung up gloves after 6th fight when I had the crap beaten out of me for 8 solid 3 minute rounds by a guy who REALLY could box.

I just thought I could.

;-)

Started young too?

My mom had me in karate/kung fu when I was around 4 years old.

I'm unusual in that I was middleweight until I hit my mid 30s and then heavyweight from then on. Always had superfast hands and endurance. Had to pump iron to get the strength. Guys could never lay a glove on me as reflexes too quick. My dad used to do everything under the sun to keep me from fighting. I would hit guys twice my size and they'd end up knocked out or in a hospital needing treatment.

Then one day a friend of my mom's who was a heavyweight boxer and trainer sat me down and showed me why my punches were so lethal. He then showed me how real boxers train. Some doing 1,000 pushups a day.

Martial arts my legs are the deadliest. I can kick over 7ft from toe to toe straight up. I've got cousins that tall and it came in handy.

I come from a family well heeled in boxing and martial arts so it works well for me.

As for kickboxing my friends are all over that. We even had a school in NY in our art studio where we taught comics, animation and kickboxing. One of our teachers was the Thai kickboxing champ.

Now for wrestling, nothing beats a fight with a wrasslin' man. You have to be bad assed at boxing or kung fu to hold off a wrassler. Once he gets a grip you got a fight on your hands for sure.
