* What country is it where folksingers might be put in jail for singing peaceful songs? * What kind of a country is it where a mother of five gets a prison term for having sold one CD with peaceful music on it? * What country is it where a pastor raising his national flag in his church would get kicked out of his parish for being an extremist? * What country is it where somebody raising his country's flag would be harassed by his neighbors for being an extremist? * What country is it where a teacher suggesting that all students should sing the national anthem first thing every morning would lose his job for being an extremist? * What country is it where showing uncompromised flags of its past is considered a threat to "public peace"? * What country is it where people can get fined for raising an arm to wave their hands at a person? * What country is it where people can be fined for collecting and displaying full-scale models of historical weapons? * What country is it where one can be fined or sent to jail for showing symbols and insignia that have been, and still are, used in many cultures for centuries and millennia? * What country is it where a professor who writes his disbelief about certain historical events in a footnote, written in Latin, in a scholarly anthology can be prosecuted and threatened with jail? * What country is it where a judge, writing a well-founded, but highly controversial book on historical topics, sees his book confiscated and burned, his pension cut, and his PhD title withdrawn as a result of this? * What country is it where a highly renowned historian writing a well-founded book of his country's history can be threatened with prosecution because what he found out is not liked by the authorities? * What country is it where a history teacher is sent to jail for uttering historical dissent in a private letter to a high-profile personality? * What country is it where a professor criticizing internationalism can be kicked out of his job, harassed, prosecuted and driven into suicide? * What country is it that sends a historical dissenter to prison for more than two years just because he published peaceful, scholarly historical material? * What country is it that denigrates, defames and humiliates its war veterans to such a degree that finally one of them burns himself publicly in protest against what he calls a "Niagara flood of lies" against his generation? * What country is it that outlaws the commemoration of such a self-sacrifices and punishes everybody who dares to publish this man's last appeal? * What country is it where well-founded, heavily footnoted books on political and historical topics, authored by academics with plenty of credentials, can be confiscated and burned by the authorities? * What country is it where authors, editors, publishers, printers, wholesalers, retailers, importers and exporters, warehouses, and customers buying more than two copies of a certain medium can be prosecuted for producing, stocking, importing/exporting, distributing dissenting political and historical literature? * What country is it that hides from its citizens, which media are outlawed, so that one cannot possibly know whether or not one commits a crime when distributing such media? * What country is it where judges are threatened with prosecution because they did not punish political and historical dissenters harshly enough? * What country is it that outlaws the introduction of exonerating evidence? * What country is it that prosecutes defense lawyers if they try to introduce exonerating evidence on behalf of their clients? * What country is it that does not keep records of what is said and is happening during trial proceedings? * What country is it that has institutions designed to conduct political trials? * What country is it that has a huge spy agency designed to snoop on opposition groups? * What country is it where members of certain political opposition groups considered constitutional can nevertheless be deprived of some of their civil rights? * What country is it that, according to experts, will be a totalitarian state very soon, if things keep developing as they did so far? * What country is it where even the mainstream media admit that this country is in a state of hysteria while persecuting political dissidents? * What country is it where the head of state asks for children to spy on their parents and parents to spy on their children to make sure they do not harbor unwanted political views? * What country is it where authorities and the public declare publicly to fight everything that is deemed to be politically on the right? * What country is it where the authorities declare that half of their population deserves to be ostracized for harboring political views? * What country is it that is proud of conducting more than 10,000 criminal prosecutions against persons for having committed peaceful "thought crimes"? * What is the country in the world with the second harshest censorship after China? What country would that be??? The correct answer is: Germany |
Shit... not a clue from the thread title - but yet another stupid pile of crap with US idiots wanting to talk about themselves...
Who gives a shit? Shut the fuck up and don't be so damned ignorant and nobody will be giving a shit. PS And it might help the international perception of the US if the trash were drowned. |

I have no problem with the people that live in America, bar a small gripe about their world knowledge. Which isn't their fault I guess. I don't really know how your education system works. (re: the funny knowledge video that was posted last month)
I do think your President is a bit of a yoyo though. :) -N |

They are simply fed by their newspapers and news channels, 95% of them are under severe influence of that propaganda .. their media has washed their brains out of them. All they know is what their govt. and media want them to know. This is as simple. |

I'd have much rather spoken with you intelligently about this in person in Phoenix, but missed my chance I guess. Trying to debate this on GFY is only going to bring out the worst in both sides.
Frankly I love most things about the USA. Everyone talks about how rude and ignorant they are, but in all the times I've been down there, I can think of 2 or 3 people that struck me as that. That's a pretty damn good ration. One thing my wife noticed that was kinda funny, was phoning the hotel front desk one day coming back from Phoenix and thanking them for something. Instead of getting a "Thank you" back, she got "Uh huh" instead. She told me, not really offended, just as an observation. I laughed. I hadn't noticed it before she pointed it out, but sure enough I noticed it a few times after that. That's not something I consider outright rude, just indifferent. But, I can also see how some people WOULD consider it rude. If that's where the consensus came from that American's are rude and ignorant, well, I wouldn't say you have much of a problem. As was pointed out elsewhere in this thread, there are idiots everywhere...yeah, in the USA too. But I digress. One thing that I used to loved unconditionally about the US was their patriotism. In Canada, you probably have to drive a dozen square blocks to find ONE private residence with our flag flying. I've driven down streets in the US where every second house has a flag. I love that. Your patriotism IS unwavering. Unfortunately, even when you're wrong. But, while I've always admired your patriotism, lately on GFY, and with your current administration, arrogance seems to come hand in hand with the love of your country. On GFY, which thankfully isn't entirely representative of the US people, getting an American to admit they made a mistake about ANYTHING is virtually impossible. Admitting mistakes is a sign of strength btw, NOT a sign of weakness (a concept not only eluding the American's of GFY mind you). Just because someone doesn't agree with everything America does or stands for, doesn't make them American bashers, but that's the first thing we hear...followed closely by, one of the following condescending remarks... -You're just jealous of us all -You're from (insert country here), you don't count -You're not from the USA, so you don't understand and you never will -You're a terrorist sympathizer or worse, a liberal -You're foreign trash -WE run the world economy -We'd send over a couple of nukes and wipe you out -Or of course the threats...meet me at an upcoming show and we'll see what you have to say (I'll tell my beliefs to anyone wanting to hear them and speak intelligently about them. I DID go straight up to 12clicks in Phoenix, who's twice my size btw, and told it just as I did when we "Debated" elsewhere. It was one of the better talks I've had with someone from this industry. Too short though. Notes-He lost the board debate but didn't threaten me. :winkwink: ) I'm curious to know if your schools down there have bullying policies. In Canada, or at least where I'm from, when a kid is bullied, the school takes quick and decisive action. Hopefully that'll defuse the situation quickly. The recent tone of the US, but even moreso by some American's here on GFY, is of that of a bully. Of course that isn't going to go over well. It sure as hell doesn't go over well with GFY's American's, why should it go over well with anyone else? With the size and world influence the USA has, NATURALLY not everyone is going to agree with everything you do. But the USA would come across much better if they appeared to listen what someone, hell ANYONE else has to say on any matter. Maybe, just maybe, they have a better idea. Finally, as a loose analogy, talk to anyone in the service industry. Complaints are easy to come by. Praise, not so much. How many people here complain as soon as they don't get what they want? By the same token, how many people are quick to praise someone when they DO get what they want? I personally do both, but make MORE a point of making sure whoever's in charge knows when someone serving me has done a great job. That probably means as much to the server as a larger tip. Recognition. My point on that is, when you see people complaining about the USA on here, keep in mind how many people AREN'T complaining. I learned a long time ago, it's not always who's speaking (or in this case, posting in threads), but those who are conspicuously absent. Silence can speak volumes. :2 cents: :2 cents: |
Personally I love Americans, everyone Ive met at shows are great and 99% that ive met other places are great as well. However, when it comes to this question I dislike Americans like Splum because he is a complete tool that makes you look bad. :2 cents:

Other.
Being an american I'm very displeased with the current administrations' blunders, agenda, and poor execution regarding too many instances, wars, and disasters that I would like to list out. What also distresses me is the complacent/ignorant attitudes that, imo, too many of my fellow citizens have currently. With that being said, I don't hate the government and think the system can work well if run properly with an agenda that would bring stability back to our country. Which in return could bring more stability to other countries as well. Being someone who is currently residing outside the country, I miss it so very much. Bottomline: 20 million illegal immigrants can't be wrong. |

I want to vote for this one. |
