residents
dead kennedies
minor threat
joneses
sex pistols

i hate top five lists. stop sucking john cusack's dick.

SilverTab 08-18-2002 06:07 PM

Punk is one thing, but I think punkrock is another... i.e. Bad Religion..I see them more as a punkrock band than a punk band(like Sex Pistols, Exploited etc...).
If I had to make a top 5 punkrock bands I think it would be:

1-Nofx
2-LagWagon
3-Craig's Brother (1st album is just too good)
4-No use for a name
5-Propagandhi

hmm top 5 isn't enough tough... :Graucho

Love misfits

faytl 08-18-2002 06:34 PM

This is basically a list of my favourite bands, the ones with asterisks are the ones that could be considered punk and would fall into the topic of this thread.

1. *Operation Ivy
2. Mad Caddies
3. Sublime
4. *Dead Kennedys
5. *Rancid
6. *NOFX
7. *Propaghandi

The list could go on... Personally I cannot stand old english punk, e.g. Sex Pistols...

Gotta love'em just for "Ska sucks" LOL

But the whole record (how to clean everything) is just AWSOME....Lyrics are damn good, so is the music...and they're only 3....The guitarist/singer does a hell of a job!

I don't agree with you there, they had some great songs on that album... like Mary Melody, Days Away & Bridges... their next album is sposed to sound like Duck for Cover on steroids or some shit... can't wait for that one :thumbsup

I can't believe no one's mentioned The Refused!

Their album "The Shape of Punk to Come" is the seminal hardcore album of all time...

Don't miss it!

Errr, yeah...hardcore fashion dorks.

DrGuile 08-19-2002 01:53 PM

One of those threads where I HAVE to post ; )

Im not big on oldskool punk, but I totally respect what they did.

But I listen to The Clash and find it boring as fuck... At least they had the idea ;) Originality goes a long way.

My personal favorite in the Neo-punk department:

NOFX and Propagandhi.

Music is great, lyrics are awesome and their attitude and view on life are killer.

Another band worth mentioning: Grim Skunk(greatest band ever, not just in punk). Check out their self-titled album, its just a well of creativity...

a couple more things:

Offspring, green day, blink182, et al. can rot in hell... with korn and limp bizkit and all the rest of the pop/whatever mix.

Also, side note to people just discovering Rock'n'Roll right now with The Hive and the White Strips and all, Wake up, rock'n'roll never died and when you move on to the next fad, it will still be there!

Other bands who are not quite punk, but worth every kilobyes of their MP3s : Gaffer, Small Brown Bike, Sparta, International Noise Conspiracy, Planes Mistaken for Stars.

Greatest song quote ever:
"And yes, I recognize the irony that the very system I oppose affords me the luxury of biting the hand that feeds. But that's exactly why priviledged fucks like me should feel obliged to whine and kick and scream- until everyone has everything they need.
"
Propagandhi, resisting a tyranical government.

Fletch XXX 08-19-2002 01:55 PM

WHat I am jamming right now.

Wildhearts - Endless nameless
Backyard babies - Total 13
Hellacopters - Supershitty To The max
The YoYos - The YoYos
Entombed - To ride shoot straight and speak the truth.
