that was a good clean hit...get real, if you skate with your head in your knees thats what happens...welcome to the NHL. Luongo made a stupid mistake but is the only reason the canucks were even in the playoffs let alone the 2nd round. Better team won just admit it canuck fans.

1.75 goals per game in the playoffs
1/25 on the pp in the series

not gonna get it done

I love that hit Rob put on that fool! then the goal to follow by his brother Scott! It all happened so fast!

60+ SOG! it was an awesome game to be at!

That's who.

Agreed, that may be his one flaw... and it's something he's done before.

But for those saying the Canucks are an inferior team to the Ducks, look at the scores in the series. All close, not one runaway game. If anything the Ducks EDGED past them, and I'd say it was mostly due to Luongo.

I have new respect for Vancouver, they did well. I would have thought it would be the Flames in their place getting this far, not them.

he was excellent in the last game. suburb. perhaps great. and then that one mistake.... sad really.

i do not feel that the nucks are inferior _team_ to the ducks. the nucks just had inferior _players_.
big difference.

fuzzylogic 05-04-2007 04:32 PM

max is back for bflo. mistake.
drew stafford scratched tonight. mistake.

bflo has been owning the 1st 10min. sounds good!

fuzzylogic 05-04-2007 05:13 PM

OMG! max just showed his old superstar-self!

fuzzylogic 05-04-2007 05:20 PM

fuzzylogic 05-04-2007 06:57 PM

omg Max Afinogenov Scores In Ot ! ! !

what A Huge, Huge Point For Him

fuzzylogic 05-04-2007 07:01 PM

seriously, Ruff took a big risk giving all that ice time to Max in this game. he made a few good plays and likewise, made some very bad ones.

he was certainly the X-FACTOR

Furious_Male 05-04-2007 07:28 PM

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Maxim Afinogenov made up for all the trouble that got him benched.

The flashy Sabres forward, who sat out Game 4, scored a power-play goal 4:39 into overtime in a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the New York Rangers on Friday night, moving Buffalo to within a win of the Eastern Conference finals.

Chris Drury forced overtime by scoring with less than 8 seconds left as the Sabres finally beat goalie Henrik Lundqvist with their 37th shot on goal.

Buffalo rebounded from two defeats at New York -- the Sabres' first losing streak since March -- and a 1-0 deficit Friday to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series that shifts to Manhattan for Game 6 on Sunday. If necessary, a deciding game would be held Tuesday back in Buffalo.

Afinogenov's goal came 11 seconds after New York's Blair Betts was penalized for hooking. Getting the puck at the right point, Afinogenov shifted into the middle and, with teammate Thomas Vanek providing a screen in front, blasted a shot that beat Lundqvist through the legs.

Martin Straka scored for the Rangers in a series in which the home team has won each game. The late goal against spoiled Lundqvist's bid to hand the Sabres their first shutout loss of the season.

The winner was redemption for Afinogenov, who was punished with a benching by coach Lindy Ruff for his sloppy play. He had already been dropped to Buffalo's fourth line in Game 3.

This one was wildly entertaining despite the lack of scoring. Buffalo dominated most of the play, but couldn't find a way to get one past Lundqvist.

That changed when Drury scored by converting a rebound that sent the packed arena into a tizzy. With their goalie pulled, the Sabres controlled the play in the Rangers zone and worked the puck to Tim Connolly at the right point.

Lundqvist got a piece of Connolly's shot, but the rebound caromed directly to Drury, who snapped it into the open side from the lower left circle.

The Rangers appeared ready to steal the victory when Straka scored with 3:19 left, scoring from inside the blue line through defenseman Brian Campbell's legs. The puck sailed in over Ryan Miller's blocker and hit the camera inside the net and shot out. Referee Don VanMassenhoven initially waved off the goal, but replays clearly showed the puck went in.

New York had a goal disallowed with 7:46 remaining in regulation when Michael Nylander beat Miller, but VanMassenhoven immediately waved it off and issued Rangers forward Brad Isbister a penalty for goalie interference.

It was a fortunate break for the Sabres, after Daniel Briere had a potential tying goal disallowed in the final seconds of Game 4 when video replays were inconclusive in determining whether his shot crossed the goal line.

Briere still couldn't get a break on Friday. Lundqvist foiled him twice on one-timers in the opening period. He then missed another opportunity with 2 minutes left in the second period when he wrapped a rebound off the post, the puck rolling along the goal line and into Lundqvist.

Lundqvist's most impressive save came 8 minutes into the third period when he got his blocker up to stop Tim Connolly's hard snap shot from the slot. He then quickly covered the rebound before Ales Kotalik could get to it.

The Rangers continue to stifle the top-seeded Sabres' high-powered offense. Buffalo, which scored a league-leading 308 goals in the regular season, has scored four goals in three games.

Miller was sharp, too, in stopping 21 shots.

His best saves came in overtime when he blocked Brendan Shanahan's redirection from in close during a Rangers' power play at 1:18. A minute later, Miller snagged Karel Rachunek's blast from the left point.

Game notes
The Rangers went 0-for-7 on the power play. Five of their nine goals this series have come during an advantage. ... Sabres C Paul Gaustad returned after missing 35 games due to a sliced tendon above his left ankle. ... The Sabres sat out rookie forward Drew Stafford, who had two goals and two assists in nine playoff games, and Daniel Paille, who played his first game this postseason Tuesday to make room for Afinogenov and Gaustad.

---

Max should have never been benched game 3. His speed is a factor even when hes not scoring. Of course I am biased sitting here in my Max Jersey but the truth is speed kills.

I wouldn't exactly say they've been "outplaying them all series"...

but in today's game they are certainly schooling them a little. :D

4-1 for Detroit atm.

:1orglaugh today detroit got some breaks due to SJ fuck ups and lack of hard play.

both teams have played hard in the series. to say that detroit has been "outplaying SJ all series" clearly shows you are biased and not watching objectively.

i guess your right its not like detroit is winning 68% of the faceoffs or outshooting the sharks almost 2 to 1 and averaging almost 10 more minutes a game in the offensive zone I must just be watching it wrong

fuzzylogic 05-05-2007 07:36 PM

the 1st period of otw/nj game was good. but after that pretty lousy minus gomez :/

otw still played the same. they never changed. didnt need to, huh.

Maybe. But they also fell because they got outplayed and outscored more often than they didn't. :D

Ottawa moves on!

CDSmith 05-06-2007 10:49 AM

I kind of hope the Rangers win tonight, it will give Ottawa a few more days to heal up before they have to start the next series... against Buffalo. :D

RANGERS R GONE

Can't wait for the Ottawa - Buffalo series. :D

His comments were directed to those Leafs fans who are apparently trying to somehow make the Ottawa - Buffalo series be all about Toronto. Something about both the Sens and the Sabres hating the Leafs so much that this series won't matter... something like that.

Hodge said that those Leafs fans are basically nuts and they should chill out, because not everything is about Toronto... lol ... not an exact quote but that's the gist of it.

I can see that trying to tell a leafs fan that anything that happens in hockey isn't about the leafs is always tough

CDSmith 05-07-2007 07:55 PM

On another note, looks like Detroit is going to sink the Sharks in their own "tank"

lol

1 period to go, 2-0 Wings.

Spunky 05-07-2007 08:37 PM

Hopes were obviously dashed tonight. :D

You were right about one thing though... there WERE handshakes in SJ tonight.

Detroit - Anaheim is going to be a great series.

I am chauncy 05-07-2007 08:55 PM

why are there so many detroit hatters in the world they are and have been the class of the league for years and they will be playing for the cup again this year the ducks are a great team but they do not have the depth that detroit has it will be a great series but it won't go past 6 games and detroit will win

SHARKS GOT BEAT 7-1 SINCE LETTING DETROIT TIE IT WITH UNDER A MIN IN GAME 4 - I knew they were done right then and there!

They're BIG, FAST and young though.. so they'll be back there next few year to make a few more runs at it! Just HATE to loose to DETROIT! Thats worse than the STUPID DUCKS!

Fairly safe money I'd say. Wings are an old team, very experienced. And hell, that Chelios is 45 but can at times play like he's 25, and works twice as hard as most of their opponents. Draper, Lidstrom, Samuelsson etc, all adds up to a very powerful team. Love em or hate em.

I am very interested to see how they do against the Ducks.

Scott McD 05-10-2007 04:33 PM

Buffalo getting their asses kicked early on. Just pulled one back though.
