Although they are one of my team's rivals, i went to a milan vs. inter game about 2 years ago. the craziest, most insane sporting event i've ever been to. i had a great time... definetely unforgetable! gotta give props to milan. :thumbsup

I don't have any favourite at the moment but there was hardly a team its run for the Champions league title I would enjoy more than the Juventus in 95 / 96 season.

yeah - St. Pauli got into the semi finals - as a 3rd league team. they beat several 1st league teams on their way and got only defeated by bayern munich. man, that were parties... :pimp

There's a strong bond between catholics in Ireland and Scotland to begin with. Too many links to ignore. But Celtic FC has its roots in immigrant catholics from Ireland. Which is true of much of the catholic population of Glasgow too. So naturally, they identify with their Irish heritage and in turn with Irish nationalism. Many Scottish born people with Irish links went on to become great Irish patriots. James Connolly would probably be the best example.

And the issue of sectarianism can't be ignored either. Something like 5% of Celtic supporters are catholic and it's a similar number for catholics that support Rangers. You certainly won't ever see a Union Jack being waved around by a Celtic fan, nor will you see the tri-colour being waved by anyone in blue. Wearing a Celtic FC shirt or a Rangers shirt in Belfast is a very tribal thing. You wouldn't walk down the Shankhill in a Celtic Jersey and likewise, you'd be a mad man to walk down the Springfield Road wearing a Rangers jersey.

i would say the rivalry in Hamburg between St. Pauli and HSV is not that distinctive, especially cause politics and religion are not involved. it's more like an underdog/upper class thing. And as long as you don't wear Nazi clothes you can run around with everthing on any St. Pauli event. one of the best parties we had with a bunch of guys from munich in leather trousers - they were really surprised that no one bothered them and we all ended up really drunk :1orglaugh
