Germany actually has the most technologically advanced mobile artillery right now. I can't remember what it is they have, but it beats our howitzers hands down. Probably one of the few things any country will ever have military that is more advanced than something coming out of the U.S. But we spend the most on the air force.

I dont think these factors are important for an army any longer. The two best armies of 20th century - USA and Russia - sucked, the first one in Iraq, the second one - in Chechnya. Why? Because the way of fighting has changed radically. No more enemy forces standing in front of you on a battlefield. No more weapons pointed at each other. Nowadays, the potential enemy is everywhere and nowhere (so-called terrorism). That's why armies must change their strategies to deal with it. But they reinforce their weapons and increase the number of solders instead. What for? world has changed, it doesn't work any more.

And its a damn shame they aren't using that technology to help out in South Afghanistan. I'm sure the German military is pissed at their politicians for this, as are the other countries with military in the secured Northern areas.

That's a BIG mistake! Starving soldiers will fight much better than fat'n'satisfied ones because they have nothing to loose. Their life conditions are already close to war.
